i don't know if any of you folks do it but my favorite way to have french toast is like this.actually the old french way.
soak the bread a little extra.and place in the pan (use oil , not butter)..pour a little more egg mixture on the bread.you want the center to stay firm but very soft..it is supposed to be like custard..
when done plate it and butter it heavily..instead of syrup use granulated sugar...it will blend with the butter and make a kind of a sauce....it is quite delicious this way...
