The pound cake is so named because it is one pound of butter, one pound of flour, one pound of eggs and one pound of a substance which shall not be named. It's a damn 4 pound cake.
In actuality it is a 1:1:1:1 ratio of all four ingredients. You could use 1/4 lb of all 4 just the same.
