But...it's a tongue :o. I am all for a good piece of meat. Actually I don't eat anything that comes from the sea. No fish shrimp or clams. I am perfectly fine with the thought of eggs, heck I could be thinking of how an egg embryo and still be eating. Ok the sausage thing is a little disgusting but I still could eat it. Nice try  ;).

Not that I'd ever eat it but how is kidney prepared. I was into feeding my dogs raw several years ago. I bought a kidney from the slaughterhouse. It was awful....smelled like a urinal. I gagged... :o

They're chicken embryo's, Mug.  Excellent food  ;D

Pauline, I remove the membranes from the kidney if the butcher hasn't removed them before hand.  Then I soak the kidney in vinegar water for an hour or two.  Sometimes I don't bother with that step.  Then cut the lobes into chunks avoiding the white fatty stuff in the middle.  That part is for the dogs.  Dredge the chunks in flour.  Saute them over med high until browned add some chopped onion and a clove or two of garlic and a bit of rosemary and bay leaf toward the end of the browning process.  Add either red wine or water and with some red wine vinegar.  I like the water and wine vinegar motr than plain old wine.  It gives it a bit of zip.   simmer gently for 10 or 15 minutes.  You can serve it with a nice green salad with potatoes or QVER RICE

A good fresh kidney should never smell like pee.  I have never gotten one that smelled like pee.  If I got one that smelled like pee I don't think I'd even feed it to the dogs!

Always move forward. Never look back.

I remember my dad chasing us kids around the house with a tongue. Then he stewed it up and we had it for dinner. I don't remember how it tasted. Must not of been too bad. I've also had taco de lengua and tacos de tripitas. Not a big fan of the tripe. But tongue is okay.

The story....

When I was young, I had rheumatic fever......they gave me a pure liver extract that was blood red black....smelled terrible, tasted worse...when spilled on my pj's it formed a scab/stain that never came out......just typing this brings that awful taste back in my mouth.....

My grandmother knew of this and tried hard to find a way that I might try it again.....she cooked the pounded liver with bacon and apples, old German style.....I have to admit, if always smelled terrific.....but I ate the great breaded pork chop that she cooked on the side for me....bless her heart, I miss her......she made the best strawberry preserves that anyone ever ate.....warmed it up in a dble boiler and made homemade drop biscuits...just for me....I always picked her flowers.... ;D.....such a sweet person she was.... ;D
