Mt. Brown Hut on Lake Kaniere Scenic Reserve, New Zealand.

Its access tracks are a maintain-by-community initiative which was the brainchild of Eddie Newman and Julia Bradshaw. The Hut, originally Lower Arahura Hut, was built in 1962, and spent its first 50 years in the Arahura Valley. It was due to be replaced by a new Hut in 2010 and Eddie and Julia were able to persuade the Department of Conservation to allow them to relocate it on the Mt. Brown tops. The hut was dismantled in sections and flown on to Mt. Brown and reassembled on site. Four bunk beds; bookings not required ? first come, first served. Photo: Hugh van Noorden
