So far, any fern with a rhizome...so yes! Also, a few weeks ago I did a Crypt the same way. It's shooting down roots around the sides of the wood to the substrate! Leaves are smallish right now (which is typical for the C. lutea that I've been growing), but I'm waiting to see what happens when the roots hit the ground and running!!!!
