Congrats, but I actually judged Discus at an ACA once when the guy who was suppose to judge decided at the last minute not to go.  The judging at ACA sucks.  They have no Standards.  There were three judges.  One of them hated Discus.  One of them asked me questions about the fish I'd chosen as best.  I didn't fight for my fish like you're supposed to, but I answered his questions well.  I did a good enough job.  The Discus went Best.

I hated having to judge.  I know that I could do it.  I have a habit of picking the best.  Judging is too great a weight on my shoulders.  I don't have the right temperament.   I'll stick with judging my own fish.

These are breeder's awards Liz, not ACA show awards...and just because you met one questionable ACA judge, doesn't mean that they're all bad....I know most ACA judges can evaluate any fish..not just an angel, or a discus. How many discus freak judges can you say are that versatile?....

You're right.  We Discus folks are specialists.  I'm considered second class by some of them because I got involved with Angels!

This is a fact that everyone in Discus knows...ACA is prejudiced against Discus.  Our fish need a 20 gallon tank with a heater.  They think that we're sissies when what we want to give our fish what t hey need.

It would glorious if a NADA show could be with an ACA show.  It would be good for both organisations good.  I can't see it happening for many years.

Agreed. I find it odd too that those discus breeders that do raise other fish, select angels....that's interesting too. Some at the GCCA turn their noses up at both Angels, and Discus....LOL....Africans rule their world....

I found that to be the case here too.  When I went to the Capital Cichlid Ass. (CCA) meeting a couple of weeks ago they featured mostly Africans. No Discus and the only Angels worth anything according to some were the Silvers. ???

When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because those weirdos are your tribe.  (Sweatpants & Coffee)

If you really want to the Black sheep, go to the ACA convention and tell them you keep Danios!  I did that in Cincinnati back at the 2009 convention and Frank Reece was so impressed that he had me on the Blue Zoo.....  LOL

I can't claim to be the only open minded fish keeper there though.  Both Mark Denaro and Mike Drawdy were selling Danios in the vendor room.   ;D ;D ;D
