Good afternoon everyone and Happy Halloween. I just got back from running errands and when I left the house it was a cold 34 degrees. Normally we wouldn't get that low of a temp for another month.

We are now up to 49 degrees with plenty sunshine so it will be nice for Trick or Treating for the kids. I don't give out candy anymore. My grandkids are having an immediate family Halloween party and they will facetime me in later this afternoon.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Too Many Fish. Not Enough Tanks.

Hi Willie, it was cold here last night, in the 40's, but up to 60's now.  And sunny.  This will be my first Halloween to not give out candy since before 1973.  I just don't feel up to it, but will give the little girl next door a special candy I got just for her.  Last year I gave out 50 bags of micro. popcorn and had to turn off the light when i ran out.  I am waiting for 2 boxes of plants today, maybe.  Violet leaves and Ron's plants.

...not doing much today...netted out a few large cichlids today for a guy to pick up in couple hours... more are supposed to go tomorrow... not getting any interest in the firemouths...I think they are developing beautifully...but I can't keep them with small tetras...

...going up to clubhouse later to help with lining up the Halloween decorated golf carts for the community parade...Maybe go to the little party after the parade...Stan really goes all out for this kind of thing...I might b able to get a pic of him in his to post here...

...did a WC on the cichlid tank...I think I will do the shrimp tanks to, once the RO reservoir gets enough water back in it...

...all for now...have a good day!...

I got my plants today.  OMG, Ron!  you sent me a ton of plants and I don't even know if I have the right conditions for them.  I sure am going to have to do some serious work aquascaping tomorrow.  If I have anything you want in fish, just say the word.

I meant to check in earlier but I guess I forgot.  I went to the feed store, stopped at a gas station that has great fried gizzards. picked up gizzards and a 6 pack, then went to discount tobacco where I got lucky and they had imported cigars.  I've started to get disgusted with myself again.  I like it just as well, may be more when I'm not smoking and drinking.  Addiction is a terrible thing.

My mower is still in the shop.  They said that they were backed up but it seems like it's been about 3 weeks since I took it in.  My lawn wasn't over grown because it's gotten so much cooler but it was looking ratty.  My neighbor got to feeling better and came down in his big, handsome, 0 radius turn machine and did it for me.
Always move forward. Never look back.

...glad the plants made it...are they in good condition?...

...now...if Barb's would jut get to her...!

They see perfect, Ron.  Please give me a quick run through on how to care for these.  My planted tanks are all at 82 except the shrimp tank and Rainbow fish tank in the fish room that are at 79.  All I know how to grow are easy low light plants like Java fern and Anubias glued to drift wood and Amazon swards and jungle val planted in the substrate.  I can't thank you enough, but I don't want to kill them due to my ignorance.

...all those plants are usually easy to grow with or without "high-tech" stuff...They should grow in most tanks...some may melt back in the beginning, but let them come back if they will...I really don't remember all that I sent... most are "weeds" in their natural setting...although I don't like to think of aquarium plants as weeds!..

...I don't know if 82 is too high for them...the starts of the Willow Leaf (Narrow leaf) Corymbosa was given to me by a friend in the club that has some beautiful Discus in the tank...It is huge and the plant made a wonderful backdrop across the whole tank...I presume it was in the 80s...

...I keep my tanks at room temp about 70-74 and I know the Rotalas do okay in that temp...I had a lot of Ludwigias and Rotalas when in Florence and the temps got up to 78 when I had heaters in the tank...so I think you should be okay in the 82 range...if not I can send more! ..

...I'm glad they got there today and you are pleased with them...

People call wild flower weeds, too.  Some of my favorite most dependable plants might be considered weeds by some.  Felder's definition of a weed is "a plant where you don't want it".  What could be more true.

I'd like some plants in my Discus growout tanks but they will be have to be in planters if I'm to get the best out of my young Discus.  Could I plant the willow leaf ludwiga and rotalla in a long planter toward the back of the tank?  I'm afraid that everything except the crypts will have to wait until I do some research.

Always move forward. Never look back.

Ron, I just talked to Barb.  She was all ready for your plants and some african violet plants that were supposed to arrive today but neither did.  She's worried.  The lows have been in the 40's where she lives.
