THE LOUNGE / Sunday in the warmth
Last post by Ron Sower - April 21, 2024, 10:40:28 AM
Hi Muggers!

It's been a crazy and fast week here in my little world. It's hard to believe that is Sunday morning already. I've been having a lot of ppl come to get fish, plants and shrimp plus I ordered a huge number of fish and plants this week and Ive had to that a lot of time acclaiming fish and sorting plants. I've barely had enough tank space for all. I've added 2 more 10g for plants, actually.

Lucy's booth made her rent payment in 2 weeks this month. And mine hit it solidly this past week, so the traffic is growing! Of course they're not producing a profit yet, but that will come.

I recently finished a book on the Holocaust written by a surviving Jewish medical Dr. held in Auswitz. I've heard many stories about that horror but it didn't sink in, until I read that book, how many millions of people were literally led to the gas chambers like sheep or cattle. And the methods used to keep them all at bay. (shiver)

The weather here is getting into the 90s now, with it dipping back into the 80s a day or 2 at a time. Lovely here.  The cacti are blooming. It was a relatively wet winter so they're gonna look good. Saguaros are budding and they will open their large white flowers soon. They will bloom all through May and the first week or 2 in June.

I got the results from my 2 MRIs I had recently. The first one indicated I do still have a brain - with nothing going on there!😁 The other indicated that the openings in my neck vertebrae are becoming restricted which is causing to tinkling and pain in my left hand. Surgery is one option; PT is another. I think I'll chose PT.

Willie, Barb, Liz & Dennis...what's going on with you folks? Barb, was your "cruise" a good one yesterday?

Lucy's making coffee, so I go partake. I hope all of you are havinfpg a good weekend.

Hi Barb!

Ocracoke Island! Wow! That brings back memories! Many years ago I took my family to Chincoteaque which is further north off the VA coast, in the southern end of the Delmarva Peninsula. It was quite a visit with the wild ponies coming up to the car.

How was your trip?

Hi gang, how are you all doing?  Liz I hope you are OK, I was thinking of you yesterday after I read your last post.  Ron and Willie and Dennis, what do you all have going on?  Tomorrow I am taking 3 friends on a big ferry trip out to Ocracoke Island for the day.  5 hrs will be spent going out and back on the big car ferry,  which holds about 100 cars.  Or boats, trucks, etc.  the island is 25 mi offshore but it takes 2 1/2 hrs to get there since the ferry goes very slowly.  I still love being out on the water.  This vacation place can only be reached by boat or plane.  Very small planes.;

It was 90 here yesterday!  But now it is cooler for awhile thank goodness, not ready for summer yet.  Have a good weekend you all.

THE LOUNGE / Sunny Tuesday
Last post by wsantia1 - April 16, 2024, 10:34:48 AM
Good morning everyone. It is a beautiful day here with plenty of sunshine and temps getting to a high of 73 degrees this afternoon. There is no rain in sight so it doesn't get better than this.

I've been very busy here with my flooring project finally getting off the ground. So far almost half of the new flooring has been installed and hopefully this project will be completed by Thursday or Friday at the latest. Most of the time and work has been removing the old floor. The builder really installed that carpet to make it stay in place.

All is well with the remaining fish that I have and Kobe is still hanging in there. I have decided that I will probably only keep about 5 tanks running and the rest of my tanks will be sold off or donated to someone. At nearly 70 years old I really need to be spending more of my time with my family and friends while I am still in good health.

Wishing you all a great day.

General Discussion / Re: Monday Monday tax day
Last post by LizStreithorst - April 15, 2024, 06:32:39 PM
I'm back online, folks.  I did a kick-ass job on house cleaning while I was offline.  It was worth the pain of being incommunicado.

Barb misunderstood what I said about Charlotte.  A horse is not like a dog or cat that you can take to the vet when the time comes.  A horse is BIG!  When I call the vet to euthanize one he may or not be available.  Lowell said that I shouldn't wait for that to happen.  I should do it when I see her going down in condition. She eats all she wants and drinks well. I told Lowell that it was time to have it done.  It will be done Thursday.

General Discussion / Monday Monday tax day

Hi all, I agree with you Dennis, I make the IRS wait til the last minute for mine. Especially since I owe.  I take no deductions in my retirement so I owe at the end.  My choice.  I just save up for it.  Liz is having computer issues and will be back here soon.  She and I spoke last night.  Charlotte is hanging in there, I think Liz is not sure what to do. But the horse is eating and drinking fine, always something I look for in a pet.  One of my cats, Lucy, is not well, I spend a lot of extra time with her. But she is eating and drinking fine.

It was 85 here today, felt almost like a summer day.  Warm in your areas too?  I hope for a long Spring before the hot summer arrives!

Hi folks! Well the best laid plans! I started a post this morning, completed it. Got sidetracked and forgot to click "post"!
I just rested most of the day. I'm dealing with an inflamed nostril which is very painful. Went to the UC and got an antibiotic injection last night and picked up Rx's. A touch better today but not much.

I went to SAKE yesterday even though my nose hurt, but I did leave 3-4 hours before it was over. There were 4 speakers and I chatted with Eric Thomas who did the talk on keeping, breeding and raising catfishes. He agreed to come speak to SAS.

Lucy and I have been busy with a lot of daily "stuff". A lot of it having to do with our booths and my customers. I'm still taking our friend to her doc appointments to get cleared for her knee replacement to be replaced!

Liz, I don't envy you with having to deal with Charlotte. It's such a heartache.😞

Howdy folks.  Hope everyone had a great weekend.  It's really starting to feel like spring around here.

Between the rain and the warm weather, the grass and everything is growing like gang busters.

Filed my taxes today, even though they have been done since January.  One of my first ever programming jobs was lead by a fellow who had worked for the government.  He said the IRS decides how many of each type tax return they wish to audit and then let a computer randomly select them.  He said that the quotas would be filled before the last tax date and if you waited until the end your chance of being audited was basically nill.

I'm not sure if any of that is true, and I don't cheat on my taxes, but I don't want to go through an audit either.  So for the past 40 years I always wait until the deadline to file.  ;)

THE LOUNGE / Finally Friday
Last post by Barb - April 12, 2024, 04:10:59 PM
Hi, it has been a long week.  Glad tomorrow is Sat since I have a birthday party boat ride to go to.  Yesterday was high wind all day and pouring rain off and on. I think this is what you had earlier in the week Liz.  It was still high wind at midnight an into this morning. But it seems to be over now.  No damage, but some yard mess to clean up.

Dennis how old is your student grandson?  I bet you will enjoy teaching him!  Liz, my daughter and son in law are branching out from 42 chickens, all hens with 2 roosters. Sunday they are getting 2 baby goats!  Boy and girl, from different goat farms, hoping to breed them.  Will send you pics later on.  I know you are a goat expert.  She said I will soon have grand goats, haha.

Hoping you all have a good weekend,
Barb
