Title: Fishing poles
Post by: GraphicGr8s on June 30, 2015, 10:49:48 PM
So does anyone else build their own? I've got one blank and related materials left to build. Soon. Very soon.

I've thought about it but never tried. Sounds like a nice little project and I am sure it would be my "Go To" pole. ;D ;D ;D

It sure is fun. I've done a few. I gave the very first one to my brother in law. Who let a penguin have it.
I've got one I can't stand. It's an Ugly Stick blank but I put the reel too low on the blank. But I do use it. I like the action it has. The first two I built were "wet noodles". Poles designed for 4-6lb test. Get a snook on that and it's a really nice fight.
It's really nice because you can adjust the guides, reel seat etc to what you like. It sure isn't cheaper though. But in the stores I've picked up poles and the guides are not in line with the spine of the blank. They don't pay attention to the details.
I actually had all the stuff to build this next pole but I recently decided I want it to be a blue pole. Blue seat, blue foam. Just that was about $50. We shall see.
