Title: Monday...my turn to start
Post by: Ron Sower on November 23, 2020, 10:54:24 AM
...missed you guys here yesterday...stared out with an aggressive to-do list and ended up getting a few of them done...so I just rolled the rest over for today...and what doesn't get done today gets pushed forward...one of the things I did was tighten the faucets to the vanity in my bathroom...they've been bugging me for months now...crawling down inside the cabinet wasn't my cup of tea, and I expected to hurt this morning...BUT...no abnormal pain today...so far...!!!! |^|...I had a "faucet wrench" hoped it would do the trick, and it did on one side, but i had to go thru 5 other wrenches and pliers to get one that I could fit between the sink and the back wall and get the right turn on the lock washer...a lot of getting up and down for me :P...

...I put off the Congo tank WC til today and that will be the first or second thing I'll do today after I get going...

...Willie, good luck with that 150...don't screw up your back...

...last night as we fed the fish, we were watching the 125 small fish planted tank...I've been tossing my culled yellow shrimp that don't have the bright stripe down their backs...I swear that almost all of the have the stripe now...must be an age/maturation characteristic...Pic below with one on a large chunk of wood...

...Liz, you think you'll want some of these?...

Okay, gotta get started now...have a good day all...

Good afternoon Ron and everyone. After a night of rain, a cold front came through with plenty of wind making the 51 degrees that is the current temperature feel quite a bit colder.

I moved the Altums that I had in a 75G on the floor into a 75G that I spent most of yesterday building a makeshift stand for. Everything was going smoothly until it was time to get the bottom couple of inches of water out of the tank on the floor.

I used a shop vac to di the job and when it was full I rolled it to the sink. As I lifted the shopvac up by the handle at the sink the bottom dropped out and spilled about 5 gallons of water all over the place. Of course water flowed all around including under and around wood and boxes and so I spent the last hour cleaning up that mess.

Now I still have a couple of inches of water left in the 150 that never leaked out. It should have leaked out but I'm assuming that because there is not much water pressure on the seam that it's just not getting though. When I tried to fill it up yesterday as a test I got it almost halfway full before it started leaking again

Oh well. I'm taking a break for now. This kind of makes me wish that I was still drinking. huh

Hi guys, sorry I missed you yesterday.  I was traveling most of the day, 300+ miles.  All outdoor meetings with my kids and then a friend at her farm.  It was a good day.
Willie, so sorry about all that water and weight you are lifting.  Be careful!  When I empty a tank now, no matter the size, I get the last water out of it by soaking it up with old newspapers.  I just throw them in until they soak up the water, then lift them out into a bucket or trash can.  I have also used whole rolls of cheap paper towels thrown into the tank, this works great.  Just another way to empty a tank when you can't siphon out the last bit.
Ron, what colors of shrimp do you have now?  I need red, yellow and greens to finish out my shrimp collection.

I will take the yellow's for sure as long as they haven't been bred my a shrimp of another strain.

Willie, try cannabis.  It helps reduce stress.  I know this.  I got stupid and started drinking.  I don't know what's up with me.  I actually found sobriety more pleasurable over all.

I just sent off 150 juvenile rams off to Miranda in Chicago.  As of a month ago there was a FedEx drop off place in Ellisville.  It was a side business for their other business.  Apparently it wasn't worth it to them because the FedEx sign was gone.  I had to go to Ellisville because I had to pick up my Tramadol.  I drove to Hattiesburg only because had to send to send the box.

I still have 50 of the little buggers loss plus easily another 50 breeding age Dutch Rams in my fish room 100 gallon planted tank.  I can't go on feeding them just for fun forever.  It will hurt to have to throw fish with such excellent genetics out the back door.  After Miranda gets my juvies she would like to do the same deal again.  I've had to kill fish before.  I have to bring out the most uncaring part of my personality.  I feel that it's bad for me to have to call the uncaring one to the front often.  It might harden my heart and I like my heart to be soft and open.

Hi Barb, you posted as I was typing. I figured you'd miss checking in yesterday.  I'm glad it was good.  I'll have to give you a call.  I'm so glad that your kids finally seem to be doing well.  I'm glad you never gave hoping they would.

I throw in towells to get out the last bit of water.  The newspaper thing is a good idea for getting the last quarter to half an inch.  I'll remember that.

Ron I don't know what is wrong with my red shrimp.  I thought at first that they got too inbred but they didn't start reproducing after I bought some reds on AB.  I did a killer WC and gravel cleaning yesterday.  I took all the subwassertang and all the shrimp out and did a 97% gravel vacuuming WC.  If I don't see some ping pong balls in a female soon I'll break down tank and contact you for some of your reds.

Liz, I have some but it may have gone stale. It's in glass airtight jars so might be still good. I may just give it a try.
