Title: USPS
Post by: LizStreithorst on November 29, 2017, 03:27:40 PM
I shipped 5 boxes Monday.  the only one to arrive on time is the one that went to California.  Two that were supposed to arrive tomorrow won't get there until Friday.  The one I sent to mug was supposed to arrive today but they're saying Thursday.  I'm furious.

Mine said Thursday from the get/go.......USPS hasn't had many 2 day any more....most are all three day now....and some even four.... huh

I used UPS ground to Missouri.....got there early on day 2......and cheaper too.... ;)

My receipt from USPS said 2 day to you.  If it says 2 day on the receipt  I should be able to get my money back for the shipping cost, right?

I have never asked for a refund before but I've never had 4 boxes arrive late in one fell swoop!  Your fish should be fine.  The guy in MN is in trouble because it's  fucking cold in MN and my heat packs are only good for 24 hrs.  I'm worried about the nice man in Kentucky who's box will also take 4 days to arrive.  I sent a huge box of fish to him and some are a bit crowded in the bags.

How hard is it to get USPS to refund your money?  Do they make you jump through hoops or do they just do it when they are wrong?  I hate red tape and jumping through hoops but I'm on the war path over this.

They should stand by what they say!!!!!!  UPS is too far and FedEx is too expensive.  If USPS doesn't stand by what it say I'm screwed.

Your fish will be fine, George.  I've become obsessive in my bagging.  You just got 1 72 hr heat pack even though I'm in MS and you're in AZ.  If they arrive dead, which they won't, I'll make it right as best as I can.

Mine came in this evening a day earlier than scheduled and I saw that they were at the Post Office at 10:00 AM. I have the bags floating to eaqualize the water temp then I will plop them in. The heat pack was still warm but the bags leaked a little but not enough to worry about and take the Angels out of the bags right away. Thank you.

Thank God they arrived safe and sound. One less worry.  I band the bags as tight as I can.  I hate that your bags leaked.  I do my best to make everything as tight as I can.

My big box to the guy in Kentucky was in Kentucky last night but this morning is in West Virginia.  I told the guy to just put it out with the trash when it finally arrives and asked if he wanted a refund or for me to ship again in January.  This is inexcusable.  I'm disgusted.

No change in the box going to MN but it's just 7 little fish not the 36 I sent to Kentucky.  The guy in KY lives in Steele.  Just 4 hrs from WV.  Perhaps their is still a shred of hope.

All yjose bags of fish will help keep each other warm for a bit too.....they'll share the heat I suppose.....it'll take longer for them all to get cold ...

...here's hoping anyway..... |^|

Hey Dale,  it was looking pretty bleak for those fish.  4 days is hard on fish even when it's warm out.  In the winter 4 days is a killer.  I have a full box of 72 hr heat packs but when they are gone I'll be buying the 96 hr ones.  32 degrees in December may be warm for MN but it's not warm for fish used to 80 degree water.

I got the nicest compliment from the guy in MN.  I hadn't heard word one from him since I shipped his fish so last night I emailed him.  He wrote this back this morning:

Hey I was absolutely impressed with the job you did packing them .the mail lady just set them in
The driveway but I had my brother watching for it and got it right away .there was no losses. As of this morning there A ok all have been eating well since Saturday.when I got home Fri at 7 pm the heat packs where still warm giving of heat .I will leave positive feedback and you can foreword this to any potential customers. Thanks I would not hesitate. Buying from you again .lenny

For the first time in my life I have confidence in my bagging and packing.  It's a good thing because I'll be listing more fish for sale in a week or two.

Well done Liz!!!

Be careful shipping fish during the holiday season.....  with all the extra packages in the system, delays are inevitable.

I'm just relieved.  I need to start doing the Aquabid thing on a regular basis.  Can you imagine how hard it is to do something that you're not sure you can do correctly when it involves live animals?  From the time I start bagging to the time the fish arrive I almost can't eat I'm so stressed.  It's terrible!!!!!!!

From now on bagging and packing will just be a chore I don't enjoy.  I finally know that I can do it right.

I put a drop of meth blue in each bag and used pure O2.  I'll keep doing it.

That's why I asked you when it would be safe again, Mug.  I will not ship again until after Jan 1st.  I can list them in a week or so and say that I can't ship until after the first.  The half blacks are getting big and I want to sell most of them before I have to ask an arm and a leg.  I may keep a pair for myself just in case something bad happens to their parents.

That's all that you can do.  You do your very best, and then hope that things work out.

Back when I was shipping a lot, I would always lose more fish to summer heat rather than winters cold.

Someone please 'splain this me  This guy lives 7 hrs from me.  He shipped the fish Monday.  The box spent a while in Houston but is now on it's way to me.  Tracking says that it will be delivered Saturday.

Why do they say that?  They're not doing it to cover their asses if they screw up because like George said, they don't give a refund at all for late delivery except for express.  This new tracking thing they have going on sucks and their timely delivery sucks as well  I looked into UPS but have the smart fish people on Aquaboards say that UPS sucks as much and costs more.  Only Discus people can afford FedEx prices.

I guess I was ready to pick a fight with USPS even though they don't care squat about what I think.  They know that I'm stuck with them.  As bad as they are there is no better affordable alternative.  I found the page where I could bitch to them directly.  The feedback option were "praise" or "suggest".  I chose "suggest" and started my to the point review with the words, "I respectfully suggest" and then went off on them in respectful manner.  The muse was with me.

It felt good.  I know that whoever reads it will mentally flip me the bird and nothing will change.

Let me see if I can explain it. The Post Office does not have any airplanes of their own any more. They sold them off back in 1997/98. They no longer haul their package over the road either. The large Post Office trucks you do see are for local drop off and pickups at the local stations. One truck with a 40 ft trailer goes from one station to the next picking up cages of mail and when it is loaded they take it to the mail sorting station to be moved by another carrier. All shipments are contracted out to FedEx, UPS and other trucking companies.  The packages going across country by air (Express) use FedEx and UPS and they are in no rush to move the mail their packages get priority since you are not paying the large FedEx/ UPS rates. Once the package leaves the Post Office hands the other carriers cannot scan them as far as I know so until it reachs another post office you don't see a new scan until it gets to another Post Office.Years ago the Post decided they did not need the package business and that mail letters was enough. No one saw into the future and could not see what technology would do and now the Post Office has been trying to catch up. Not everyone writes a check or letter any more so the revenue is not that great any more so trying to upgrade equipment to keep up is hard to do. They are still the best deal for the money but not always the best. Like all the other carriers you have the good, bad and ugly.
