Sorry about that, I didn't know that I had to make it share on youtube to post my own video.
I got home from Jons and Michelle was telling me that she was watching the fry, She seen one of the angels eat the fry. She was freaking out thinking I was going to kill mama for eating the fry, then she spit it back on the slate. She doesn't know anything about the angels, She rarely even looks at the tanks. I was a little surprised she was watching them. I'll get her hooked on them yet.

Mom And Dad just wont give up. Mama had about ten fry in fer mouth before she spit them out. As soon as she spits them out she is off to get more rogue fry. It's seems like a never ending game for the fry.

there all free swimming now. Mama still trying to stick them back to the slate. the fry want nothing to do with it anymore.
I have the brine shrimp started but there not ready yet. I will try there first feeding tomorrow morning.
Title: Re: The mutiny starts
Post by: b125killer on April 28, 2013, 12:43:19 AM
technically it the morning so I feed the fry. It took them I minute to figure out what it was but they did start to eat it. How long do I have to feed them shrimp before i can start other foods?
Title: Re: The mutiny starts
Post by: Mugwump on April 28, 2013, 06:36:09 AM
Give them a couple weeks before trying crushed flake,etc....but you can feed them micro worms now, too....a little variety....plus the micro worms survive longer in the tank water. I look for spikes showing that the finage is developing.....then.... Try just a touch og the 'egg foo young' or 'egg foo duck'...it's very fine and small....my Koi batches take to it early....then progress to the crushed flake.

That's a good vid, and a beautiful sight to see.....your breeding journey has begun....enjoy.. ;D

Rember, watch for tanks a garage sales! I just bought 2 more tanks for Jon yesterday. 1 10gal with everything ( light, filter, ect. ) and a 20 gal. with gravel, light, filter, and other stuff. Alot cheaper then the store, needs a little cleaning, but not much they were in good shape. the man said that on Friday he had a 65gal. bowfront and 4- 29 gals for sale and they went fast.  He does salts,  I said darn! I missed them, because I was a work.

Every one got to est and things are going good. the parents were even eating the brine. so I decided to give some to the rams too. they were like kids in a candy store. And I still have plenty left over for tonights  feeding. I like to look on craigslist for used tanks. It saves me from having to go to garage sales. Lately people done lost there mind and want way too much for there tanks on craigslist.

I'm surprised at how much faster the parents are at eating the bbs, With there speed and i'm going to kill it attitude they will plunge  in too the swarm and miss ever fry.

I know what you mean, I was surprised my self seeing them big angels going after such tiny food. It did get me to thinking that the other fish would like some too. after all I get way more shrimp from one batch that I could use. So far the rams and guppies love the stuff. The other angels in the big tank didn't care too much. But there is a stronger current in there tank so the shrimp get washed all over quickly. I also have been giving some to the BN fry. they seem to enjoy it but not as much as frenzy.

I normally use the Grade A eggs.  Brine Shrimp Direct guarantees a minimum hatch-out of 225,000 nauplii (baby brine shrimp) per gram of cysts following a 24 hour incubation period.  If you had a tank with 1000 fry, that would be 225 bbs per fry..... that's a lot of shrimp!  LOL

Yep, my last lb of eggs was from Brine Shrimp direct.....those are the eggs that Scott's using....
I get eggs from Jehmco too, on occasion.....they have good eggs at a good price....
Title: Re: The mutiny starts
Post by: b125killer on April 29, 2013, 08:20:55 AM
I'm not to sure what I did to this last batch of shrimp but it wasn't as big as the first. I don't think I put in enough salt. I'm not to sure. I did get a lot of shrimp but not as much. This batch I put in a little more salt. it was still better that the first batch from the LFS.
The fry are doing good. I think that papa is fed up with me doing water changes he was attacking the hose, bubbles, duckweed and anything else he didn't think should be around them. He's not going to like it when it comes time to pull his fry.

Keep the bbs hatchery things real clean....plus, sometimes a hour or so can make a difference in what you see in a harvest...if your temp is good, harvesting at around 18-20 hrs should be perfect..sooner for the smaller bew hatched bbs,etc...plus if you're making it with cooler water, it takes a longer time to get to optimum temp..... ;D..extending the time a bit....then if you harvest earlier, there's not as many and/or they're smaller
Title: Re: The mutiny starts
Post by: b125killer on April 29, 2013, 08:42:15 AM
I have the temps around 82. I'll let it go longer if I get the same results. How are you cleaning your hatchery? I have been rinsing mine out with hot water and wipe it out then fill it up to see if there is anything left in there. If I don't see any shrimp I start another batch.
Title: Re: The mutiny starts
Post by: Mugwump on April 29, 2013, 08:46:28 AM
Sounds good, I rinse, and wipe mine out too....every time... 80 deg is a good temp....don't let that temp creep too high......try for 70-80.....and if you're harvesting around the same time every day, that would be about 22hrs, give or take......perfect.. ;D
Title: Re: The mutiny starts
Post by: b125killer on April 29, 2013, 09:03:08 AM
I'm trying to keep the harvest time around 7am. maybe it's a little to warm for them there temps are holding in the low 80s. Michelle thinks I'm losing it. I haven't made any changes in my sleeping pattern for the fish until I got the hatchery going. I think it surprised her to see me get up that early to make sure the fry get feed. I also been calling them my babies, She may be onto something.  ;D

Things are still going good. They are getting a little bigger. You can tell that there not just little white things in the water.
Michelle was interested for about 5 minutes. when they start to look more like angelfish and less like dots she'll be interested for another 5 minutes. LOL

LOL.....are you starting a pic/vid album of their progress ??...a breeding log ??..A log can be done in notepad and can be valuable for reference, plus when you cross or pair these up, you'll have a lineage history available....spawn dates, hatch dates, genotype count results, etc....
Title: Re: The mutiny starts
Post by: b125killer on May 03, 2013, 07:26:41 AM
I do have some what of a breeding log. I have there spawn date, when they started wiggling and when they were free swimming. I still don't have a good count on them. they just wont stay still for me to count them. I have around 25 to 30 at last count but it keeps going up and down. How long before they start to take there shape?
Title: Re: The mutiny starts
Post by: Mugwump on May 03, 2013, 07:40:27 AM
About a couple weeks for first seeing signs of spikes....I'm glad that they're doing well. Do you have a 10 gal set up for them?...The parents may decide to spawn again soon, the fry will gp after the new eggs, and it may, or may, not upset the parents....aka *gulp*....best to be prepared...seeded sponge?? for the 10gal??....20gal will work too....

back in a bit....off for an errand.. ;D

Title: Re: The mutiny starts
Post by: b125killer on May 03, 2013, 07:50:10 AM
I always have a seeded sponge or two. I never know when I'm going to start another tank. I'm not to sure if the 10 gallon will be ready for them. I have to figure out what to do with the fish that is in there. I do have a few new 20 gallons that I could set up for them. I would like to get them in the smaller tank. and save the 20 gallon for the sunset and koi that just spawned in the community tank.

The easiest way to count fry is to take a photo and then count them.  I just open the photo with GIMP and put a red tick mark through them as I count, (keeps me from counting them twice).

I'm going to be moving some things around to clear out my ten. I will be moving the fry today. I think the parents might be snacking on them. But they do tend to hide in the plant's, It's hard for me to tell. I still don't have a good count on them. They are getting bigger, Just need there own house now. I'll post a new pic of them in there new home later.
Title: Re: The mutiny starts
Post by: b125killer on May 05, 2013, 11:19:40 PM
I got them moved to there new home. I don't think they liked it. I know the parents didn't like it at all. I did manage to kill a few fry in the move, I'm not to sure why. I used almost 75% of there tank water for the new tank. and the temp was with in a few degrees. I also have a few pleco fry in there too. Is that okay or should I get them out? Should I still keep the light on all the time? it is on now I'm not sure if it's okay to turn off yet. I also put the moss that was in there old tank in there. I tried to count them from the pic but I think there some double counting from the reflection on the bottom. There is around 30 to 35 fry there.

The small bn fry will help keep the uneaten food cleaned up, snails work too. I'd leave the light on for a few days. You can scoot it over a bit to dim the tank a little. It'll give them a chance to settle in first.

The fry are getting so big. I can tell that there angelfish. I never realized just how much work it would be. It truly is a labor of love to raise fry.  It's so much more involved then the BN's are.

Thanks Josh, I wanted to update everyone on the angel fry. Thy are still doing great. I think I may have one little Nemo. I'll let him try and grow a bit more to see if what happens.
Here they are at 4 weeks old. they are eating BBS. I think I might of overfeed them. That's okay there are a few BN's in there for the leftovers. Plus I will do a water change on there tank later tonight.  I do see some with nice strips showing. ;D

I got the babies in there new home. It's the 29 gallon a little bigger then the last one. They seem happy and they also like to forage in the sand. Too bad I pissed there parents off. I don't think they like there new tank location. they have only spawned once in there new spot. and they didn't keep the spawn long. I think there is too much traffic. I'm thinking of putting there tank back where it was. That way there away from everything.
Here is a new video of the babies in there new tank.
