Of course they chose the intake tube.... wfwf
The zebra is from a batch that I got from Liz and grew out....can't remember if they are 'het' for anything...?? Liz?
The Female is a clean smokey....'clean' being the key word here....I'm hoping that Liz's is clean except for maybe a HB...??...
This is day two on the spawn..the female picked the only white that appeared.... |^|...I think I'm seeing wigglers starting...??...I'll try to look better when he'll let me...LOL

They are clean except for half black.

FANTASTIC !!!!!.....I'll separate the pair later..... |^| |^| |^| |^| |^| |^| |^| |^| |^| |^|
..we have wigglers.... ;D They have moved them up further towards the top of the tube.....looking good....
I may try to snag a few of these...??
That's great Jon. Congrats. |^| |^| |^|

....bunch still there.............. |^|....
...zounds !!!....still there |^| WOW....what a pair !....unbelievable.....besides keeping the other adults at bay,,,this is a L144 tank...LOL...pairs/juvies/fry...
I love it. Making a bold stand. |^| |^| |^|
excellent!
...They moved them to an Anubias leaf... |^|....there's more than I thought too.... ;D
The fact that they are moving them around and keeping them safe guarded is great news. My Koi would move the wigglers, clean the slate and then move them back. That's before they decided to get super stupid. huh

...they just moved them again.....LOL....
I knew they would. lol
I thought that I knew my fish. I thought that the Zebra would eat them for sure. Shows what I know huh

...he's a warrior....plus he snags loose fry and spits em back, just like mom.....I'm impressed....
..and they're still there.... |^|
...just watched them for a bit......and, yes.........they're still there... ;D
...she moved them again !!!...I'm starting to really like this pair.....she's not perfect in shape...but their instincts are incredible .... |^|
Sounds really great. Lots of raising instinct by that pair. Congrats again. |^| |^| |^| |^| |^|
She's got em in ball(s) now........not huge, but looks like a fun spawn....I'm still thinking how in the world to get em out...LOL...
You're going to have to move them before they free swim. Dig up the plant they're on, plop it in a love nest, put the pair in. It's your only hope for this spawn. Once they free swim they are lost.

I'm not sure it's possible, Liz...the tank is on a top rack...it's precarious for a real delicate maneuver....I may try to siphon them off just prior to free swim to a small vessel, then move the parents, and then introduce the fry back slowly.....maybe with a baster directed at an anubia leaf already in there....might work..? I've done similar with some success....but....?
I'll look again, but there may be a chance at just snipping the leaf for the move..??
Sounds to me that snipping off a leaf is the safest way. I'd be scared to death to try the baster thing.

There are different sizes of baster..you can control them pretty easily....my concern would be them capturing them without eating them when under the stress..?....instead of returning to a leaf...
That's my concern about the baster method myself. The parents would be totally freaked if you did it that way. If you remove a leaf at least they are all together the way the parents left them 2c2

...hopefully, if they come out easily.....I'll need to either move the parents first...while not knocking them off the leaf....or try to snip it while battling the 'monsters of the 55'.....neither sounds too easily accomplished... huh
Move the wigglers first if you can. It will calm the parents to see them as they left them. That's the way Discus people do.

With angel fish, it depends more on the hostility of the parents ...you'll most times never get those fry out without banging them around...period..the folks are all over your butt...but there are a few tricks for distraction...if done right...LOL....timing and speed is everything...
we'll see...
good luck.

..thanks....it'll be kicks if all goes well....regardless, at least the parents will have their own love nest.. ;D
..she's moved them again......two leaves this time..... wfwf
It sounds like a chess game between you two. mim

I'm just going to let it happen as it evolves...if I can snag a few, I will.....I'll wait for more after they are moved to their own tank...
.....she moved them again.... huh...sheesh...
What a pair. She's moved them about 5 times now, right? Good fish! BTW, the male is fine ;)

....at least, The male is handsome too.....alas, not the veil tho.....but that's ok....he has great finage....
We have a mutiny in progress... ;D
We managed to move the other Zebras from the tank.....it was that or lose one(two?)....Mama was going 'flat' on them big time....whew... |^|
Mutiny in full swing....LOL..just watched 'em both go spit about 10 fry out each.....LOL.....10-15 more flew up and away, as they did... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
They're up ;D....algae/smalgae....LOL...it's also a L144 grow out tank... |^|
....fed them some Walter worms.....they're eating good.... |^|
..not quite as many left, but being in a 55gal, it's expected....
...moving these two over to their own 30gal tomorrow....can't find any fry left at the moment....there were (4) earlier... huh
rats.

rats.
I really expect any success for them lasting long in there....the pair and fry were in a 55gal.....the pair were tired of chasing them all the time, and couldn't be responsible for the ever straying little ones............gradually, as they wandered off, they perished somewhere.....
who knows, there may be a few left that I didn't see.....if so, I'll pop em in with some other spawn that I'm raising...
Hmmmm, I have my pair who failed in a 40 cube. Think I should put them in a 20 instead?

Did yours go free swimming too??.............and I'd say yes, a 20/30 makes it easier for the parents to control the fry, and the smaller area is better for fry finding food..
Mine were eaten as they were trying to mutiny,
