Title: Worming Question
Post by: PaulineMi on October 20, 2014, 08:10:31 PM
Do you worm your fish when you first get them, on a regular basis or not at all?

If you do, why...if you don't why not?  I've never wormed my fish and don't see problems with them that would indicate they need it. Just wondering if there's anything that I'm overlooking in caring for them.

I don't de-worm....but if I brought in wild caught stock, I definitely would do so..if you keep your water clean with timely water changes there should be no need to....IMHO....however, excessive outside stocking to your hatchery may pose a cautionary treatment as a viable option tho..??

I have wormed when it was necessary.  I the fish were eating but not gaining weight so I looked at some fish poo under the scope and I saw classic round worm eggs.  I used Flubenol that I got from the UK.

I've never wormed, didn't really see the need to plus I don't like to use meds I think they are harsh on fish. I do know breeders that do it routinely though

I've been fortunate with my wild caught fish, (knock on wood), and never had any problems.

I don't normally worm my fish but last week I gave them a course of Fenbendazole in a garlic flake base that I got from Angels Plus. ;D

Just wanted to clean them out since I recently lost 1 breeding male to bloat and I had to euthanize another that  was ill and not responding to treatment. :( :(

The rest of my adults look fine but I just thought I'd be proactive. 8)

Appears the general consensus is "only if needed".  Thanks for the responses.  :)
