I had a pair of Koi spawn in the community tank last night. This morning my best Discus make was fanning their eggs and running the pair off when ever they got close to them.

LOL....now that's got to be a trip to watch.... ;D
I forgot to mention that my number one pair of Half Blacks spawned day before yesterday. They are doing perfectly as expected. Another Half Black pair spawned this afternoon. They have been egg eaters so far, but this is just their third try.
Super Liz, that one pair is something special. Are the fry coming out almost all expressing HB?..
Give the little guys a break, Mug. Do you expect the little guys to start expressing at 21 days (I think) free swimming? If you want to express at that age you will have to send Jesus over to do a miracle :P I'm pleased with the way they are developing. There are just a couple of larger ones and a few smaller ones. The rest are pretty much the same in growth. Over the week end I'll net the smaller ones out and toss them in the garden. Then I'll give the tank a good cleaning and take some pics.
And yes, my number one pair are special, indeed. I'm developing a fondness for them. I sure hope I'm happy with how their kids turn out . They should be good. So far this line has produced a high percentage of Half Blacks. And 1/4 of these will be pearl scales. You never can know for sure what you'll get when your start was a purebred crossed with a mut. That's the case with these.

LOL....of course, they do take longer than 21 days, Liz...I thought that you'd had fry from this line of HB's before??...Let's put it this way....in general, about how many from a spawn are you expecting to express, percentage wise....I know some breeders that only get perhaps half to be expressing....some spawns..none...perhaps I didn't state the question quite right?
I've been working with them for several generations. They are beautifully expressing, but one of THEIR parents was a non expressing Pearl Scale from the same line. So in this case I'll have to wait and see. I'll be happy if 1/3 of these express. I'll be jubilant if I get 1/2.
I've got some photo updates. Jon, your Rio Negro/Sta Isabel angels are turning into real stunners! I just love them. All the snails....I've gotten tough. I squish them against the glass and the angels love them. Here are the angels today:

And here is one of the young Dantums from David that I took today:

Thanks, Pauline...seeing them growing into their own is quite a thrill for me...I'm glad that they did so well for you. ;D..they are gorgeous!!!!
My Dantums are about breeder sized too....heaven knows that, me and a camera, could never get pics to show them off as well as you have done.
Those are some really nice Angels Pauline and as usual the pictures are great. 8)
Beautiful, Pauline.
Where does the name, Dantum, come from?

The breeder in Israel. They are from a Peruvian scalare ('high body') cross to Albino pair. These Peruvians are sometimes called Altums, tho not a true one.
I adore those Daltums.
Thank you all.
The Dantums are beginning to "grow up". I'm going to have to keep an eye on aggression levels. They're in a 55 but will be going into a 90 soon. Hopefully the extra space will help.

I got mine about the same time as you did...about dimes ,or so, too....mine are in a 75 with some Koi juvies....they're all getting pretty friskie ....LOL...it won't be long before they go a 55 by themselves to see if any pair off.. I have some adult HE veils from Frank...I might see if that pairing would happen.. ;D the HE's carry an Albino ;D..now wouldn't that be a nice strong line ;D ;D ;D ;D \
That would definitely be a spawn worth working towards.
Do all albinos express the light off-white bars like the Dantums? I've never cared for albino critters until I've owned these guys. Having never truly looked at an albino due to thinking a white fish with red eyes wasn't apealling I know nothing about them.

Yes, if the phenotype/genotype used in the pairing displayed bars..like a silver/zebra..my Plat Albino's are gorgeous...but these Dantum's are awesome...
They are some pretty angels Pauline. I do like the St. Isabel/Rio Negro. I had a pair of smokey albinos that didn't have any bars. They spawned once on the lift tube in my big tank. Unfortunately I didn't do anything with the spawn and them two where among the sick ones that didn't make it. :'( My St. Isabel/Rio Negro spawned today. I'm not to sure when they spawned. I seen the spawn late in the day. When I was looking at the spawn I noticed that the eggs looked concaved. I'm not sure but I think the parents where eating them. for some reason they stopped parent raising. I haven't been to focused on breeding right now anyways. I'm more concerned about making sure I have healthy angels.
Concave?... maybe the eggs are further along than they appear..they do go a bit out of round just before wiggler stage....
If so that would be the fastest hatch I have ever seen. I did there water change yesterday and there wasn't any eggs.

That's what I said. I'll start tending them better once I fell better about my other tank. I haven't been conditioning them before they spawn so they haven't had that big of spawns anyways.
So an albino would express white/off white of its regular phenotype,i. e., a smokey albino would have the off white patchy area on the back part of its body and white at the front. Sounds pretty. Sorry you lost yours Scott.

Not necessarily, but it can occur.....as with any cross/spawn, there will be many variables in expression..I don't think the smokey express's that much.....
Another update
Don't know what this discus will end up color-wise but it's been interesting watching the changes:

Jon's kids again. This morning I moved the light towards the front of the tank. This is what a couple of them expressed and I was able to capture it in a picture:

Pauline, you bring them out wonderfully....great pic.. ;D

This is what my smokey albino male looked like. He didn't have bars and was mostly yellow.
That's a great picture Pauline. Its hard to capture that detail in them.
My St.Isabel/Rio Negro spawn is still there. Maybe im just seeing things but the eggs don't look right. I guess I'll know for sure tomorrow.
He sure was a pretty angel.
