What a trip it is feeding the red worms to the angels. Liz, sent us a nice culture to try...well, today was the day....."Holy Tug-O-War, Batman' LOL....I cut a few, carefully, in half...then the action really started....The Manacapuru cross loved them...then tried the Koi...zounds, they went berserk....LOL....even the Cories loved em.....the 'stud muffin' snagged one before grandma cougar could get to it.....yep, looks like a winner...thanks again, Liz..... ;D
did you feed the worms the horse turds I sent? The worms breed like crazy in horse turds. Discus don't touch worms when they're cut in half. I feed them whole. I've become good at picking the right size worm for the size fish, and keeping the culture producing well. It actually took a long time to figure out. I have added it to my list of accomplishments.
I have more if anyone wants to give them a try.
I'm actually thinking of splitting up the culture and having two to work with....so far, no turds, just coffee grounds....they're doing real well...I took a plastic fork, like a mini shovel and rolled a fork full over..they were teeming in there...cool....another reason to give them some more room...then I'll add the turds and more soil....by the by, Manny dug out the onion bulb that was in there and carried it around the house with Jan yelling at him to drop it..or she'd 'brain' him....it was quite the sight..... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D .....what a guy, knows how to create excitement.... :o
They need more dirt for sure. I sent them in their own compost, so I'm sure that you will have eggs hatching, Dividing them in half is a good idea. The ones that will be resting and reproducing will need more horse turds than the ones you're feeding.
The worms love onions. I'm sure than Manny slung a few worms around you house. Sorry...If you chop the onions up it won't happen.

PM me your shipping info and when you want to do it. I do USPS Express. It's supposed to take 2 days. sometimes it takes longer. I have some worthless Mystery sails I can toss in if you'd like them.
Horse turds I'm a little short on................horses don't use the plumber.
For some reason I got a laugh out of shipping horse turds. The worms sound interesting, sounds like Jon likes them.
Sounds very interesting keep us updated

Cool! If you need any advice I'll be more than happy to help you. I consider myself to be the worm lady (blush).
Thanks Liz I put coffee grounds and some veggie scraps any other suggestions?

Keep the culture moist like a wrung out sponge, feed them all your veggie scraps. They like torn up newspaper, as well. Except for checking the moisture and feeding, walk away from them and let them get comfortable in their new digs for 3 weeks.
So do you just put new veggies and stuff on top or do you attempt to mix them in?

At first you should mix them i a little. Once you start your second culture, just toss your breeders along with their compost on top of the food you give the second culture.
Would pics of the way I do it help?
Sure pics are always helpful for us visual learners lol

Yeppers..pics would be helpful here too....how do you moisten yours, Liz...??..with a spray bottle?..
I'll take some pics this afternoon. I just pour in water. Sometimes I get them a little soggy, but their worms. They can handle it.
Summer is here and I give my worms the water melon and Cantaloupe rinds and any other vegetable left over we have.
What could be more boring that taking pics of how I do worms? I'm off to to it now.

LOL......put on some tunes, maybe that will liven it up a bit?.... ;D
This is all y'all get for now. I have two working cultures going. I'm working through the large container and tossing the tiny ones, and the breeders, along with their compost into the smaller container. You can see the horse poop sticking out under my last two additions of breeders and tiny ones. I have an empty container tucked away. It's the grey one. I could tuck all of them away, but I work them several times a week. they are heavy, and it's just easier for me to leave them out.
I'll post pics of how I work them in the next day or three. Anyone can do this. All you need to do it have two cultures going and toss the tiniest ones along with the breeders into the next bin. That way the tiny ones get to mature and the breeders get to breed.
Thanx, Liz....looks like a lot of worms there...use some for fish'n too??
I tried to get pics of the too small ones and the breeders that I put into the second culture to breed and mature but the pics didn't come out clear. The worms were in my hand because I wanted you to have a size reference. I couldn't hold my hand out far enough to get them into focus. I'll do it another way later.
For now, this is what you get. I put the amount of worms and compost in the small container. I dump it into the larger one which is set on a 2X4 and angled down. I work through the worms and their compost picking what I want to feed and putting them into the round containers. What I don't feed I move to the bottom of the tray I'm sifting through. It goes back into the second culture.
From that small amount of worms and compost I was able to feed 32 Discus and Mugs 5 pigs 3 worms each. I had more in that batch that I didn't bother to pick through. I could have fed another 2 tanks of Angels from what was left.
nice system.....I'll try it that way too...
Thanks for the pics and explanation
