I've always thought that fox had a lot of feline in them.  This proves it.  Look at how he plays like a cat, and fake bites his owner like a cat, and rubs on his owner just like a cat.  Cool video.

Pretty cool.

A guy in Russia domesticated some foxes (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_Domesticated_Red_Fox) over many years (selecting for animals less stressed by exposure to people) and got domesticated foxes with a lot of dog-like traits: barking, floppy ears, tail going up, etc.

LizStreithorst

I've seen that.  Very interesting.

I am thinking you might be able to buy them (Russia needs exports).
Many of the pictures did not have the wild type coloration. Too bad I like the way the wild ones look.

BillT

Too bad foxes and dogs can't hybridize.
If they could you would have either doxes or fogs.

I watched a fox jump like that in our hay field many years ago on our farm. I figured it was pouncing on field mice.

I think you are right.

QuoteAren't they both canines?

Yes.

But not all of they can successfully hybridize:
Hybridization works among: dogs, wolves, dingos, coyotes, but not with foxes and other doggish things.

There must be something that I don't understand or missed.  I was taught that members of the same species could always interbreed although the offspring was often sterile.
