Does anyone know if mouse traps get old and less sensitive? I set them as hair trigger as I can but after having killed like 10 of them I find that I'm mostly feeding the mice peanut butter. It is said to be the best bait, but perhaps I should switch to liverwurst. It worked great for me before. Or perhaps my traps are not doing right, or perhaps these meece are smarter than the average mouse. My damn cat is worthless. On the plus side she isn't catching any song birds either.
I catch most of my mice with a small piece of French Toast. I think it's the egg that they can't resist.
Dennis
We haven't had to set traps since living out in the farm house, but we used peanut butter, and good old cheese....
It's never been as bad as it is this year. I just tried some cream cheese. I was using it before I read that peanut butter was better. Shoot, I bought a jar of peanut butter for the mice. I don't care for the stuff myself. If they rob these traps I'll look into a different type of trap. I won't resort to the sticky traps, though. Even a damn mouse shouldn't have to suffer the inhumanity of a sticky trap.
The little bastards ate the cream cheese, too. I must have reset the traps 5 times today and I only caught one mouse. I'm going to order 4 of these. The reviews are excellent and some are quite funny. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002ZINDY/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=01pestcontrolproducts-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0002ZINDY There's another one that's supposedly better that is eloctronic but I refuse to spend $20. on a mouse trap.
I'd set a cowboy mousetrap for the little buggers.
What's a cowboy mouse trap, a 6 shooter?
Check them out on YouTube. It shows you how to make one.
Yup. That's it. You know you want to build one, Liz.
I prefer to have their little necks broken so they die fast but if these new traps don't work I'll try it.
I guess we're back to the six shooter. LOL
HA! I stopped by the hardware store after the dentist today. They had mouse traps similar to the ones I ordered. I bought 2 and have already caught my first mouse. I think that I must have a family of them down in the fish room and in the laundry room because when you see mice you really really really have mice! I don't know why they like the fish room except that it's so nice and warm down there. The laundry room I can understand because that's where my bags of dog, horse, and bird food are.
Just got me a second one ;D
Just came in from taking fish to the LFS and number 3 was dead ;D
cool...now you can carve notches on the traps.... ;D...just like the cowboys did their six shooters.. ;D
It would be better than letting you know how overrun I am by meece :-[ You will think that I'm a redneck who lives in a dump. I have some redneck qualities but I do not live in a dump. For some reason this a worse mouse year than ever before. The towing man even saw one under Charlotte's hood when I raised it to pour in more clutch fluid.
Naw, you've shown a few pics of your place, and it's no dump. Mice are just a price that you pay for living rural. When we lived out in the farm house, they got in the insulation of my heater on the Jeep. One cold morning I was puling out the long driveway and flipped the defroster on.....whoosh, it looked like it was snowing inside the cabin.....I was covered in shredded insulation....the whole inside was blanketed with the stuff too....crazy....the old house had a earthen basement too...I used expand foam on every hole that I could find, but no cigar, they still got it....thankfully we had a couple cats, and a blue healer female named Wiggles that hated mice, and killed them even outside.....after a bit, the problem just went away..... ;D
I'd get another cat but Xena would be so offended. I have Rat Terriers but one of them is worthless and the other only kills bunny rabbits. The meese come in through the pet doors, and when I'm home I open doors, too. It's my fault. But as long as I have traps that will kill the destructive little buggers I'll be satisfied. It will be a cold day in hell when I move to where I have a neighbor within sight.
#4's history.

That's what the cat said. ;D ;D ;D
My cat won't touch them. If they're not good enough for her they're sure not good enough for me. Besides, skinning them and gutting them would be quite a chore.
I must be running out of meece >:(. Havent caught one since I got home form work, but I've been working down in the fish room which likely made the little buggers hide. Perhaps I'll get one overnight. I hope I get two.
9 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Liz...Mouse Menace!

ooh ooh.....enough for a stew... ;D
A stew...I'd never thought of that. I've been deep frying for a late night snack. I poach them and serve them with hollandaise sauce for brunch.

You should write a cook book....."meeces for feastes".....
Just killed number 13. I've lost my taste for mouse, poached or deep fried. All I want is for this to end! After I clear the fish room of them I'll need to put the traps in the laundry room and kitchen. I don't think that there are any in either place but I bet I'm wrong.
Time for BBQ mouse if you're tired of fried and poached.
15 I seem to have killed all the ones in the fish room. Yesterday the traps I ordered on line arrive so last night I set 2 in the laundry room and 2 in the kitchen. Got one mouse in each room.

I hate to say it Liz, but your cat is useless LOL
Dennis
The cat has become like my horses and dogs...worthless companions that I love. On the plus side I she hasn't killed the first song bird this year. I don't need her for killing meece any more. I'm the dread killer now.
No kills today, alas. I did set 2 traps in the bed room though. I have a couple of big holes eaten in the throw I cover myself when the nights are cool. When it's warm it falls off the bed on to the floor. I think my Rat Terrier Tink made the holes. She makes holes in pillows and pulls the stuffing out. But since I'm the killer now I am constantly on the look out for any chance to catch a mouse. I have 8 traps set. I want to snag me one. Yummmm ;)
2 more in the laundry room for a total of 17
I just caught one of my dogs ::)

LOL....my aunt had one.....dumber than a box of rocks....
Mine isn't the canine brain in the house but she's not stupid. Her protective instinct is way over developed. She has gotten better since I've owned her but I thank God that her jaws are weak and her bite so under that when she attacks she can do no harm. She can't even break skin but she doesn't know that and people are afraid of her.
I groomed her for a couple of years until her previous owner was having a baby and wanted to find her a home. I'd never had a problem with the dog. The previous owner never told me that she had a temperament problem :o I found out when I was showing her off to my neighbor and she tried to bit him ::)

My aunt Liz's pup, Punch', never met a person that he didn't like.....or a leg for that matter either.. ;D
lol, lol, lol...It's an unfortunate breed characteristic. They were bred in Tibet to guard the palaces. Lhasa Apso supposedly means lion dog. The may not be lions but they certainly believe in their hearts that they are. When people around here ask what it Lhasa Apso means I say it means small hair dog with a bad attitude ;D
Read my lips. No more meeces ;D Haven't caught one for 3 days! Grand total...17 meece and one dog.
Well, good riddance..... 8)
Only here can a daily report about the number of mice caught per day go on for five pages....and be fun to read. Hopefully word got out amongst the mouse community that Liz's house is to be avoided. ;D
Once on a different fish forum two of us posted "Happy Thanksgiving". The thread got locked immediately and we were scolded with something about it not being fish related.

GCCA is like that....Steve and I, caught flak for saying Go Bears/Go Packers....LOL....entirely to serious on some places, then they wonder why no one posts.....sheesh...
Sheesh it right! BTW, I caught my foot in the kitchen this morning. Thank God I was wearing slippers. I guess I should update my count to 17 meece, 1 dog and one human.

I remember the football comments. And you're right. Even with a membership of 200 or so, nobody posts there very much. They could have used a little fun.
