Title: 18th World Guppy something or other
Post by: GraphicGr8s on August 22, 2015, 09:49:10 PM
Finally something in my home town. And to think the largest export at TIA is tropical fish I can't get quality fish here at the LFS.

http://www.18thworldguppycontest2015.com/

Sunday they auction off the fish. See your fish becomes the property of the host club to auction of to pay for the event. Hope to be there myself. I need some quality stock.

That looks like an interesting event. What specifically is involved with the fish collection trip on Monday morning? Where do they go, what is worn, what do they expect to collect,  etc?

It's great fun Pauline no matter what part of the country you are in.  Here's some photos of when Lawrence Kent was in town to speak to the club.....

That's Tony with the big smile.  You won't find a nicer man.  He's the VP of our club and currently in charge of bringing in speakers.  He's also the guy to ask if you want to do some native fish collecting.  Tony knows all the local water ways and where to go to get what you are looking for.

He's also got a super nice fish room in the lower level of his home.....

I'm not really too sure. I know yours truly won't be going though. I am not sure my back and legs could take it for too long.

I may try the farm tour though. Just depends on the other half's schedule since I am the chauffeur de riguer.

It still pisses me off I see my darned spelling mistakes right after it's quoted.

I am too unsure of the back problem. Just standing tonight cooking dinner it was killing me. But the mango shakes were spot on. Chicken fajitas. Not too bad. But the shake mmmm mmmmm.

If I recall right Joe said this was the first time it's been held in the US. He goes over to Asia a bit and they've been after him for a while to apply to host. He didn't want to at all. He's been a speaker twice at our meetings in the last year. One of my favorite speakers.  This whole thing came together in a matter of a few short months.

I don't think this is an IGFA event.

I'm still trying to figure out why I am so into darn guppies when I have a plethora of others to breed.

What comes around goes around.  It's been almost 50 years since I've kept guppies, but I've now got those Endler's I picked up at the club meeting.   ;)

Hey G8, did you start the hobby with guppies? It might have to do with your past fun times if you did. I did and in my 20's I had a breeding program of my own going on with them. Still have some males in the community tank, and a few months ago I sold off my black Moscow group. They were gorgeous.

I think I started with sword tails way back then. Actually what got me into fish was an alligator snapping turtle just before my wife got married.

Her brother caught a baby snapper from the Hudson. And I bought a 10 gallon tank for it. Then started looking at the fish at the LFS in my home town. And it's snowballed from there. I had 20 tanks in a 3 room apt breeding angels and gouramis right after she got married.

Okay...so far so good. Now, what about the phrase, ''... just before my wife got married''? Married to whom?

The first one which is some blue albino thing, one in the middle called a blue grass something or other, and the solid red ones farther down.  It's not a done deal yet.  I haven't sent money and the sale was not on Aquabid.  It occurred to me after I put in my order that a big trick is to post a pic of the most perfect specimen of it's strain, not of the fish  the seller actually owns.  The guy hasn't replied to my email order yet.  When he does I'll ask to see pics of his personal fish of these 3 strains.
