..yup, saw that....
Thanks for the heads-up Joel.
I noticed that the other day and bought 6,they arrived yesterday.
NOT good, tiny fish, poor packing and DOA.
Got refund today.
Have some set in a couple month from another breeder.
Bought as dimes, how pathetic is this?
My confession....I've been wanting to get some since you've had the dantums Greg, but I just never got around to doing it.
So when the guy started selling them in AQ, I got some. You were right, they were even pre-dimes, instead of Qaurters when I got mine. Fortunately, only 2 died in shipping. They were very brittle when I got them. But managed to have them survive.
They are now dollar size...here's a couple pictures.
..albino dantums

They look great Joel.
Was a delay in getting my new ones ,likely have them in a couple weeks.
They were so skittish since I got them....couple months in their own tank (qt). Acts like wild angels. You think they get used to me feeding them and changing their water, but didn't. (I don't think I look that scary ???) I finally mixed them in with the BSP's. And that solved that problem. From being bunched up in a corner to begging for food in front of the glass. :P :P
Getting bigger....
Such beautiful fish, and will you just look at that fat belly |^|
Yes, they love their food ;D
.... |^|...cool beans.... :D...nice job !
They look fantastic Joel, how many do you have?
Mine were delayed AGAIN,airport screw up and they didn't ship.
Getting them on the weekend.
Spoke to soon.
Just got a message that it will be at least a couple weeks due to the weather. :(
...where are they shipping from....??
Thanks Jon.
Greg...I bought 6, but 2 died on shipping. Hopefully I get a pair from the 4. I have them for three and a half months now....so I'm assuming they are +/- 5 months old. Still aways before they start to breed.
How old were yours when they started spawning?

NY , airport to airport.
This past weekend would have been great as far as the weather on MY end,was 50 plus.
I would rather wait then take a chance,it's the sellers call and he knows what he is doing.
They are reserved for me ,so they aren't going anywhere.

Can't remember for sure,i think the male was about 9 months.
The female was from someone else,i forget how old I was guesstimating her to be from the info I got.
I think it was around the same age,or a little older.
Seems like I remember about 10 months.
I'm sure I was blabbering about it at TAF.
I will never know now. :(
How big are the ones coming Greg?
From Mike Troxler?

Yes from Mike
His last batch were about nickels at 9 weeks.
The ones i'm getting are about 11 weeks now.
They're gonna be descent size then....how many are you getting?
Getting 6,i wish I could have got a couple more.
At some point i would like to get some from another source to avoid direct sibling crosses ,they likely have been inbred to death due to the limited gene pool.

I got my Altums (6) from Mike about 3 years ago. They are all big and strong living in my 150 Fatboy.
As far as I know, the Dantums came from only 1 breeder. ...I think (from Israel)
But I saw a posting once where the albino dantum was crossed to a wild cross angel to get another Albino angel...just not sure if it's here or another country. But the end product was a really nice looking angel....
Here's one of them:

Willie...are those the F1 Altums that you got? I know he was able to breed the wild altums a few years back.

Yep the ones I got from Mike were F1s. They are beauties. I try to post some updated pictures of them.

I Had fish from Attila's ORIGINAL cross.
Albino Dantum X Pinoy.
The Pinoy was bred by Neil Oyama and has Rio Negro blood, can't remember the %.
Attila's original pair.
One of the F1 pairs I HAD from Attila's cross.
Het PB and Het albino.
Black lace from that same cross.
Het PB and Het albino.
Didn't follow the Dantums when they came out, so I really have a very limited knowledge when it comes to them.
Seems like Attila was able to retain a good shape on his cross. Didn't know you got your Dantums from him also.

I got Dantum CROSSES from Attila.
F1's from his original cross.(Albino Dantum X Pinoy)
My Dantum male came from Jon.
My Dantum female came from a guy in Vegas,a friend of Mike Troxell's,Mike arranged the buy and shipped it to me.
Finally got my Albino Dantums,6 quarters @ 13 week.

Btw... a customer stopped by here this morning on his way to the gcca swap. He said he bought some dantums from you and his are prebreeders in size now. He was very happy with them .
...very nice...... |^|
Excellent looking angels Greg!
Nice looking Angels.
Albino Dantums now 6 1/2 months old.
..looking good |^|
Thanks Jon.
Hopefully they will start pairing at a younger age.
And i'm successful raising the fry.
This fish started asan albino. Can't tell you when it turned to non-albino. It's been a couple months but hasn't turned back yet. I've read Steve R has first hand experience on them turning and he mentioned they turn back after a couple months. Anyway, if it doesn't turn back, wondering if the fry when they have fry if they will be albinos or non albinos??? huh
Hey Joel, where the hell have you been, still waiting for my albino koi. ;D
You are the forth person that I know of that had their albino dantums turn dark.
Steve's, and I believe Rob's from TAS and TAF both turned back, not sure about the other guy's but assume they did too.
I've been here...just browsing every now and then....
Unfortunately the Albinos didn't produce anything. They were too brittle and they just died one by one. That's probably why there's not too many of them.
Damn that sucks Joel, they where great looking fish.
I have wanted some forever, with my luck if I ever find some it would be the same outcome.
So my 2 remaining "used-to-be" Albino Dantums has not turned back yet.
But I think they are male and female huh. Maybe I'll get lucky with them. They've been staying together all the time in the community tank and one of them is carrying eggs, her papilla is out and both are cleaning on and off. So, I separated them and got them their own tank.
We'll see....
..that would be great.......good luck!
I was very pre-occupied with the BSP pair spawning that I didn't realized the dantum "pair" spawned also. Most of eggs were eaten but was able to remove a few just to see if the really are a proven pair. Hopefully...unless he didn't do his part of the bargain...
Nothing on these guys yet. Til next time...
Got a confirmed pair!!! ;D ....nothing to brag about the number of wigglers...but I see some wiggling on their latest spawn. Took them only 8 days to spawn again. They're young...not too many eggs and not too many fertilized.

..it's a start |^|
Great news Joel.
I'm likely only going to give mine the next few month to get some successful spawns.
If not i'm DONE with fish altogether.
Will get rid of all my equipment,so that will be the end of that.
At this point it's nothing but a waste of time, spending money and frustration.
Sorry to hear that you're getting frustrated with them. I wish you goodluck with them. I know you do put a lot of time and effort with them.
Mine...got 4 fry that I see now after removing all the unfertilized eggs. Who knows if I accidentally sucked some. But I'm positive that they are all Albinos. It's been 8 days since the spawn and not freeswimming yet. I doubt that they will at this point. I'm not planning on raising them at this time. I'll wait until I get a bigger hatch rate.
Has a 3rd spawn but male didn't do anything. All turned white. wfwf
4th spawn last night. Didn't see the male participate. I just left the eggs with them. Gone this morning.

...oh yeah....good luck !
The pair stopped laying eggs for some reason. Last one was March 9. Took them almost a month to spawn again. Small clutch of eggs last night. So far a few white eggs this afternoon. Crossing my fingers....

Did you pull the eggs?
Mind aren't doing anything.
Thanks Ron...
You bet I did Greg... :D w!w It's a waiting game now. I might start to see some wigglers tonight IF...

Wishing you lots of luck with those. |^| |^| |^|
I THINK I have 2 pair separated from a group of 6,1 confirmed female that laid and ate the eggs as she did,i'm guessing the other 2 are males.
Also a group of 3 younger ones that are about a year old.
I'm going to set a date soon, and if I don't get any spawns going to throw them all in a 75 together, maybe that will shake thing up.
Good luck with them Greg, do you have a pic of some of these to show us?
Barb
Thanks Willie.
Greg, I think it's a great Idea putting them in a 75 tank and let them pick their mates. If the keep their current mate while in the 75, it will make their bond stronger and hopefully make them better parents. It's worked great on my BSP pair. Goodluck with them
Newest video I have of the 6 group, from about 3 months age.
Wow, those are really beautiful! Are they more delicate than a non albino angel? Can they be in a tank of non albinos? I might like to get some someday. That color in a planted tank is sure nice.
Barb
They look great Greg. |^| |^| |^|
Dang! They're magnificent. I don't think I could go through so much money, pain and suffering over Angelfish. But I can't quit trying it with my Discus. There's no helping where your passion decides to lie. It becomes an obsession, and there's not much we can do to keep it under control.
