I've been pondering the idea of use some in my green water tanks for that very reason.  I currently use feeder gold fish and a red eared slider turtle as both put out lots of nutrient for the single cell algae.  Just seems logical that plecos might fit that bill too.  Besides that, I'd rather have a tank full of plecos instead of goldfish that I need to re-home when they get too big.
