Website re-do.....

Over the years the way we build websites has changed dramatically.  I've went from hand coding HTML to HTML with CSS and then on to using CMS software.

At any rate, in the last year or so, I've had several people approach me about building them a site using WordPress.  If you are not familiar, WordPress is the #1 blogging platform on the net.  After doing some research, I found that with a bit of work, you can make WordPress work much like a full-blown CMS and it can be used for much more than a blog.

To that end, I've re-done the ballaquatics.com site using WordPress.  It's very much a work-in-progess, but if you have the time and are so inclined, stop by and let me know what you think of it.  Being left-brained I don't have a problem with the tech stuff, but I am severely lacking in artistic ability and creativity.  Any and all input would be greatly appreciated.   :)

Very neat and concise, I like it...only thing that you could possibly do, is to put some background color.......pale blue, etc......most any color but black....

Thanks Jon, good idea!  I like it when it's easy on the eyes.

Your new site looks great! I recognize some of the pictures...your home page fish (a gar?) and your darling grandson photos were shared with us here.

Now I know why we haven't seen much of you. You've been busy. Nice job.

Thank you Pauline!  I did re-use much of what was on the old site.  I like to think it was on-the-job training for my day job...   :P

I must say, I've been impressed with WordPress.  It is built with very clean code that is easy to extend and modify to suit your own purpose.  I've only just scratched the surface of what it's capable of and already I'm thinking it might be my new CMS of choice.

It does, doesn't it...  I have lots of photos with plants and I think the very pale lime color works very well with the green in the photos.  I did have it a very pale blue for a while... if most of my photos showed blue backgrounds in my tanks that would probably have worked very well.

Nice look Dennis.

Thank you Bill.  If Eugene Research Aquatics decides to put up a website, I love to help out with it.

Well I certainly have been thinking about that Dennis. I'll keep that in mind.
