I will buy one and see how it works. It goes in the tank but I guess you can just pull it out to move it from tank to tank.

I read that you can run it in a bucket with DE powder to charge it with diatom.

The cartridges I think are 10-20 micron.

For occasional clean-ups I have been using a submersible pump attached to a big 10-micron sock, but I might try one of them.

It actually sounds better than our old Mangum 250.  The old ones did drip.  I can't get those water stains off my tanks.  I've tried CLR.  I will try again when my tanks are taken down and I can put them on their sides to let the CLR sink in.

Before I buy any I will wait for a review from you guys,

Since I run mine on all my tanks except  fry tanks and they run 24/7 except at feeding time, I put the dirty ones in a 3 gallon bucket and add 3/4 gallons of bleach and water to cover.  I soak them overnight and  thump them around to release more crud from them.  Then I put them in fresh tap until I get home from work.  I thump them again and put them in tap water treated with sodium thiosulfate.  By the end of WC I give them another thump and put them to dry.  This way if I have to use one that has not yet dried completely, all the chlorine is gone and I can use it while it's still damp.

I get a 3 gallon bucketful of filters about twice a week.

I clean mine two or three at a time. Right now I only have two of the Hot Mags in service but I have another two that I use occasionally and one more that I have yet to use.

All set up and running. I do like that there are no air leaks. Not crazy about the suction cup attachment. May use it without them.

I can live with the cup arrangement.....it slides off easily, if need be....notice the nipple on the 'out' attachment ?.....you can add a short piece of air tubing and get a bubbler stream....

..it sure assembles easy, huh?..... |^|

It passed the first test a 20H with lefover food. Now I have it in a 40B which is my BN tank. Needless to say it is my messiest tank. I can diatom in the morning and by the evening there would be wood crap all over the place. It is hard to keep that tank clean. huh

Just got mine and put it together. I don't have a dirty tank to try it on right now. It looks like it would be handy for the occasional carbon filtering job too. I made my own reactor thingy for carbon but this looks easier.

Where is a good place to get diatom powder?

There is no way this is going to work unless I order a dozen of the little foam gaskets that go on the bottom. I haven't used the filter yet and I lost track of the thing 5 times.... now its gone.

I took a picture of it. Wow, I'm not usually that much of a klutz, but every time I lift a cartridge out it is stuck to the bottom and falls off somewhere.  huh

I can always cut a replacement out of something if I lose it for good.

You've reminded me that I need to order some diatom powder. What procedure do you use to charge it with diatom?

I only used it the one time. There is nothing going on in my tanks right now, the male rams are all deadbeats, the angels are just sitting there. I'm waiting for wilds season for discus.

I did not notice the filter loading more up quickly but I did notice that the filter media is harder to clean. It takes me 2 cleanings with bleach to get it as clean as the media in my mag 250s. Could it be it's catching more dirt? The dirt appears more embedded in the media.

Even though changing the filter media is much easier on this filter, I prefer the old Mags when it comes to swapping filters between my tanks.

They do allow dirt to embed much deeper in the cartridge...I'm having to clean em twice too...agree the older ones are easier to move....LOL...those dang little suction cups are a bitch to just pop off....

I'm going to set this up as a regular bottom filter for a while. It is a PITA to use it like I use my regular Hot Mags and the cartridges clog way too quickly and deeply for my liking. I moved it to a juvie growout tank as a bottom filter to see how effective it can be in there. huh

I think that I will like them when I get them.  I don't move mine from tank to tank much at all.  If the cartridge gets plugged up more quickly.  It will mean that they are doing a better job of removing particles.

I set it up as a regular in tank filter. I put some Purigen in the tube and I'll check it in a couple of weeks unless the flow stops or slows down considerably.

I wonder if it'll pack the powder by running so efficiently?

If you mean the Purigen, I don't think so since it's not a powder. I also only put the purigen in on chamber of the 2 chamber tube. It's also in a media bag so it is contained. We'll see what happens over the next few days.
