Having thought about this for at least a year I finally did it. Here are my new discus from Mike Beal, Central Ohio Discus. They arrived this morning. I don't have full lighting on them yet so they can used to the new environment.

Those are beautiful....wow...good luck with them..
Very nice quaity fish, Pauline. They will look even better once they settle in. Congrats!
Thanks Liz and Jon.
Liz, thanks for telling me about Mike. He said the Blue Fire Jewel will be a rose red with blue over the head and body. Even after just a few hours I can see these fish starting to blossom.
congratulation, Them are beautiful discus.

I wondered about the Blue Fire Jewel. It sounds like one of those stupid names that Discus breeders give thier fish, and I suppose it is. But who would buy it if the breeder had described it as a fish originating from a Blue Diamone/Rose Red cross and refined over several generations? To me it looks like a Cobalt but now that I know how he described how it will look as adult, I think that it will turn out to be your most interesting looking fish. Granted, the others will be flashier, but I'm not a huge fan of Discus that look like they went to the beauty parlor to have their colors painted on.
I hope to work with a similar cross soon. You're a member of Simply. You'll be able to see the pics. http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?101691-What-would-these-babies-look-like Post #5.
Congrats Pauline, it's always so much fun getting new fish!

Yes Liz...that thread seems to be exactly what my fish is all about. I was almost disappointed when I first put it into the tank. Dark and all those bars. It's lightening up and getting prettier as it settles in though.
Best of luck with your work on the cross.
Thanks Dennis. I've entered very new territory with this group!
great looking fish. wishing you the best of luck with them
Very nice.
Thank you ilroost and JR.
That is a really nice looking Penang Eruption. The Albino is sweet looking too. I love those striated types.
Now it's my responsibility to keep these guys growing and healthy. I'm looking forward to it. :)
How old are they?.....What size??.....just curious.. ;D
I don't know their age but they range in size from 3" for the butterfly, 4" for the jewel, 4 1/2" for the leopard and 5" for the Penang.
These are the fish she choose from http://www.centralohiodiscus.com/Current%20Stock.htm My guess is that they are between 4 1/2 months to 8 or 9 months of age.
These guys have been here a little over three weeks now. They peck at my hands when I'm cleaning their tank....with their teeth! They also swim around my hands, brushing up against them. It's interesting to feel how warm and soft they are.
Here they are today:

This is what the dark colored one looks like when he's not in a dark corner of the tank:

There looking good. it's always fun to have your fish friends interact with you during water changes.
They look contented....nice job.... ;D
Thank you both.
Pretty fish Pauline, I will make their cone as beautiful as they are. Cave too.
Barb
Thanks Barb. I'd also like a planter for their sword if possible.
Will do, and the angel wall hanging also. I started back to clay work yesterday, finally. Good to get my hands in clay again after almost 3 mo. without.
Barb
Great to hear they have settled in well and you are getting so much enjoyment from them Pauline. ;)
Dennis
Thanks for the pic of the fish I like most. It has conformation to die for. It will be fun to see how it colors up.
I figured you'd like seeing that one Liz. The blue fins encircling the rose colored body is starting to express nicely too. It's still hard to capture it in a picture though.
It has potential. Only time will tell.
