The passive voice

Now, I adore the English language, and I'm sure that the passive voice has legitimate uses.  But it seems that the only time I notice it is in politicians.  The one I hear most often is, "Mistakes were made."  The guy with hopes for the White House said it in his speech today when he mentioned the thing about the GW bridge.

It's like saying, "Shit happens".   And what normal person speaks in the passive voice, anyway?  The construction is awkward.

There's a lot of that going around.....it's just 'balderdash' and I consider the source....
