I just pulled about 50-60 sterbai cory eggs hopefully I'll have better luck this time!
Super!!!!!!!!!!!......good luck..what are/were the spawning water's parameters???..temp,PH,etc..what did you do, if anything, to set em off??
I've been using a tap/RO mix and temp of 80-82, then a couple days ago I did a big 75%WC with cool 73-74 degree 100% RO water, unplugged the heater and threw in some blood worms. Then yesterday I fed them frozen krill and put a blanched piece of collard green in there and bing, bang, boom eggs everywhere and I do mean everywhere. I also had the hot mag running on that tank so the current may have helped too idk.
How's those eggs doing? If they're anything like the std cory's....don't siphon out the mulm....I've discovered that altho some eggs die off, the survivors thrive off the mulm. When begin to see fry, poof the mulm and watch some fly out......
I feed micro worms for first feedings, remember they don't have egg sacs to sustain them like angels and some other fish do...
It appears most of them got fertilized but I'm not seeing any wiggles yet
I don't believe they wiggle much, like angels....they pretty much just pop out...soon

Oh cool we'll maybe I'll have a surprise when I get home today:))
When you see one...the others are there too..or not far behind...that's when you gently poof the mulm.....LOL..they'll be small and fly everywhere....
I have about 6 that have hatched and survived the rest look darker and should hatch tonight.....hopefully
Best of luck. ;)
when you see 6..double it...LOL..they're tiny and usually are everywhere.....nice job...
Congrats.
Hey good luck with your new spawn Josh!
Dennis
congrats Josh!!!!
That's cool good luck with them.
Looks like they all hatched! I count about 40 swimmers!
Drum roll, please.................and the count is now......??? ;D
I have no idea what the count is lol. They are hiding most of the time! I had a small fountain pump in there to circulate the water over the eggs and now that it is off and they are hatched they hide under it most of the time. But there is a bunch, hopefully I get a good survival rate.

I'll bet there's more than the 40.....LOL...get em fed...and do some moderate water changes...they'll survive...after a few days, I only changed 20% of the water..they do fine...and they can stay in a smaller tank for quite a bit too...
congrats again..... ;D
They are in a 2.5 and I've been doing 30-40% WC daily

Dang, Y'all have tanks that small? Even Jon's 24 baby plecos are in a 29 here. Most all of my tank space is devoted to grow out. I guess that maybe I have a Discus breeder's point of view. Donno...
2 1/2's are ideal for hatching fry artificially. They keep the fry in a position to find the food easier...then, once chowing good, move em over to a bigger tank....better survival rates..
I should have figured that out.
Sterbai are still doing good. Starting to look like catfish a little getting wickers and visible find anyways lol.
That's great news. Sterbais are one of my favorites.
That's wonderful, Josh.....seems like you're getting the process down too... ;D
I was rearranging the parents tank today and found a few fry in there doing good too, guess I missed a few eggs lol.
Congrats, Josh good to see that they are doing good. now are you ready to send some to me? lol
If you have enough?, I'd like a batch too...I need some new blood and some more bodies for our Sterbia pod...
I will sure let you guys know when the time comes
Thanks, Josh....grow em big and strong... ;D
I had 2 more small spawns the last couple days. Kinda weird how they spawn a little then wait then spawn a little and wait
Great....they still laying them all over the place??..or have they found a favorite spot?
Still all over but it does seem like there is more in a "clump"
Those little fry should be looking really good by now...got any pics yet?...
Yes the ones that have survived are looking good but seem to hide a lot. I keep losing like one or sometimes two a day:'(
I'm not sure why. Actually I've been losing a lot of fry the last couple weeks. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with changing RO filters or something with city water our something completely different but it is getting frustrating:-[
At least I've I'm getting plenty off spawns to replace them with lol.
And I picked up 3 more adult Sterbai and 7 more orange lasers this weekend.

You might try just aging the water and using that....also, they love microworms at the small stage,etc......crushed pellets too...
I've used vinegar eels and bbs, also some decapitulated bbs. I need to get another micro worm culture mine went bad and I haven't really needed it with angels but I would be nice for the cory
Oh and all my water is aged, heated and aerated;)

They'll munch crushed pellets from the get-go...they're not quite as delicate as angels when young, they need chow, no egg sacs on em..I start with mostly bbs/micro worms for the first few days....then start with crushed foods too...gets em growing well...give it a try...
....
oh and get one of Capt'n Bob's sampler packages...they really like frenzy, and his smaller foods for fry....
How big are the Sterbia fry now??...any more pics??
I lost most of the big spawn that started this post but have had several smaller spawns since then the biggest ones are 3/8in. long probably and are really active
It's good to hear that you're having some success with them... ;D
