My experience with koi is that the juvies are little phenotype surprise packages.  Do the black dorsal and anal fins stay black? That would be a really pretty veil koi.

I've never had an issue with losing black in my Koi lines. I've read recently about some others thinking that they are see a reduction in black as they grow....this female is my oldest angel in the hatchery and she hasn't lost orange, nor black at all....she's around 5+ years old...

this was from about two years ago..... ;D

They are so pretty....very nice deep coloring too.
