General Discussion / Re: Monday Monday tax day
Last post by LizStreithorst - April 15, 2024, 06:32:39 PM
I'm back online, folks.  I did a kick-ass job on house cleaning while I was offline.  It was worth the pain of being incommunicado.

Barb misunderstood what I said about Charlotte.  A horse is not like a dog or cat that you can take to the vet when the time comes.  A horse is BIG!  When I call the vet to euthanize one he may or not be available.  Lowell said that I shouldn't wait for that to happen.  I should do it when I see her going down in condition. She eats all she wants and drinks well. I told Lowell that it was time to have it done.  It will be done Thursday.

General Discussion / Monday Monday tax day

Hi all, I agree with you Dennis, I make the IRS wait til the last minute for mine. Especially since I owe.  I take no deductions in my retirement so I owe at the end.  My choice.  I just save up for it.  Liz is having computer issues and will be back here soon.  She and I spoke last night.  Charlotte is hanging in there, I think Liz is not sure what to do. But the horse is eating and drinking fine, always something I look for in a pet.  One of my cats, Lucy, is not well, I spend a lot of extra time with her. But she is eating and drinking fine.

It was 85 here today, felt almost like a summer day.  Warm in your areas too?  I hope for a long Spring before the hot summer arrives!

Hi folks! Well the best laid plans! I started a post this morning, completed it. Got sidetracked and forgot to click "post"!
I just rested most of the day. I'm dealing with an inflamed nostril which is very painful. Went to the UC and got an antibiotic injection last night and picked up Rx's. A touch better today but not much.

I went to SAKE yesterday even though my nose hurt, but I did leave 3-4 hours before it was over. There were 4 speakers and I chatted with Eric Thomas who did the talk on keeping, breeding and raising catfishes. He agreed to come speak to SAS.

Lucy and I have been busy with a lot of daily "stuff". A lot of it having to do with our booths and my customers. I'm still taking our friend to her doc appointments to get cleared for her knee replacement to be replaced!

Liz, I don't envy you with having to deal with Charlotte. It's such a heartache.😞

Howdy folks.  Hope everyone had a great weekend.  It's really starting to feel like spring around here.

Between the rain and the warm weather, the grass and everything is growing like gang busters.

Filed my taxes today, even though they have been done since January.  One of my first ever programming jobs was lead by a fellow who had worked for the government.  He said the IRS decides how many of each type tax return they wish to audit and then let a computer randomly select them.  He said that the quotas would be filled before the last tax date and if you waited until the end your chance of being audited was basically nill.

I'm not sure if any of that is true, and I don't cheat on my taxes, but I don't want to go through an audit either.  So for the past 40 years I always wait until the deadline to file.  ;)

THE LOUNGE / Finally Friday
Last post by Barb - April 12, 2024, 04:10:59 PM
Hi, it has been a long week.  Glad tomorrow is Sat since I have a birthday party boat ride to go to.  Yesterday was high wind all day and pouring rain off and on. I think this is what you had earlier in the week Liz.  It was still high wind at midnight an into this morning. But it seems to be over now.  No damage, but some yard mess to clean up.

Dennis how old is your student grandson?  I bet you will enjoy teaching him!  Liz, my daughter and son in law are branching out from 42 chickens, all hens with 2 roosters. Sunday they are getting 2 baby goats!  Boy and girl, from different goat farms, hoping to breed them.  Will send you pics later on.  I know you are a goat expert.  She said I will soon have grand goats, haha.

Hoping you all have a good weekend,
Barb

How's this for weird...  I use my dishwasher for a drying rack.  I wash the dishes in the sink and then load them into the dishwasher to dry.  It's almost like they are put away...  out-of-site, out-of-mind!  LOL

I'm weird about doing dishes, but then I'm weird about most everything. I'm the same way with the laundry.  I don't mind washing dishes and clothes, but putting the dishes away once their in the rack is more I can handle.  What I end up doing, which I know makes no sense, is that the next day, when I'm ready to cook again, I put away the old dishes, wash the dishes in the sink, tidy the kitchen, and cook.  I'm a slob.  Hell, I let 2 chickens sleep in the house.

Howdy Liz.  It's funny what tires us out isn't it?

I can work outside or on the bikes, even do house work, but about 15 minutes of dish washing just kills my back.  I haven't figured it out unless it's just the standing in one spot.

Today's news; My grandson wants me to teach him how to be a computer systems engineer.  I told him he needed to be a bit more specific and we settled on doing website work.

I'm looking forward to it.  He's a great kid, as sweet as the day is long.

It's still raining here and forecast to continue through tomorrow.  MotoGP is racing in Texas this weekend.  The only race here in the states as we won't fix our tracks to make them safe.  Oh well, that's what I'll be doing on a rainy Friday, watching a day of practice for the races on Saturday and Sunday.

Night all...

It's cloudy and drizzly right now, but the sun will appear later and most of the afternoon will be mostly sunny with a high in the 70's.

Yesterday I got my SS check and paid a shit load of bills.  One left, a $40. water bill that I will drive up the road and pay today.  It's yet to be seen if I can make it for the rest of the month on the $200. I have left.  I may well make it without having to buy horse feed.  God knows, I have a pile of meals packed away and in the deep freeze so I won't starve.

I also plan to pick up some pork heart which I'll use to make my main fish food with.  Boe's is mid way between my house and the water company.

That's about it for today.  It would be nice to be able to do some house cleaning, but I don't know that I'll have the energy.  Cooking always wears my body out, and yesterday I made a beef stew that involved a lot of prep work.  I could never figure out why that was since I could do so much sitting on my hydraulic stool with wheels and pushing myself around the kitchen rather than having to stand and walk.  I discovered that even wheeling myself around on the stool took a toll on my back.  It was a hard night last night so I might end up doing little else today.

I'm cheerful, though,  All the fish are healthy and happy.  Dogs are fine, chickens are an entertaining PITA, Cat has been quite affectionate lately, and Charlotte has no idea of what is coming in the short time ahead.
