The Vikings' worst nightmare is about to come true: When the team's new stadium opens up for the 2016 season, it's going to be located on Chicago Avenue, a street named after one of their biggest division rivals.

The Vikings were hoping to get a name change approved this month, but the Minneapolis City Planning Commission shot that idea down this week. According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the 10-person commission unanimously voted against the team's proposal to change the name of Chicago Avenue to "Vikings Way."

The vote came a few weeks after the Vikings turned in a six-page proposal asking the commission to change the street's name.

"The Minnesota Vikings strongly object to having the street running in front of the stadium named after one of its opponents and neighboring rival," the team wrote in the proposal.
