Why are child boards called child boards? I've always wondered.

The main board could be called the parent board, 'child' boards are mostly closely related subjects. Think of the structure of an 'outline'......remember, Roman numeral I, sub categories A, B, C..etc...Roman numeral II, sub categories A, B, C, etc.....yada yada
I may be silly but I think it's rude to call them "child boards". It makes them seem like second class citizens.

I'm sure that they understand, and their feelings aren't hurt.....sheesh...LOL
