He's a rescue. We should know in a day or so. There's one applicant ahead of us. We're hoping to be number one because we're retired and the dog's owners were retired-no kids. Also, we've had Mastiffs before.
The story is the husband died and the widow needed to move. They had two Mastiffs and she could only keep one. She put the young one up for adoption because the older one is eight or nine and takes some meds. This guy is only 7 mo. old. Not sure if I'm ready for another dog yet, but the die has been cast.

...very nice pup.... |^|
You could get one of those sulkies they make for large dogs and put him to work moving srubs at the garden center.

Yup. He's a Dogue de Bordeaux. A French Mastiff.
Time will well if we get him or not. Timing is everything. A friend texted his picture to us Sunday night. Monday morning we were at the shelter when it opened and there was one applicant for him ahead of us already. So, unless they take more applications for the same dog, our chances are 50/50.
So, I get a call from the animal shelter today. . . . . . It seems the other applicant is meeting the dog tomorrow and they will determine who gets him. I said lady, you got me all excited.
Best of luck, my captain.

...get a hold of the other party and tell them that Uncle Vito wants to talk to them about an offer that they can not refuse...... ;)

LOL I actually thought about offering money over and above the adoption fee.
I'm concerned because the other party has not met the dog. I thought our retirement home and previous experience with Mastiffs would help us out. But, placement will be determined after the other folks first meeting so, I guess they're still in the running.

...go for the horse head....!

My thoughts are turning to that.
The people first in line aren't going to meet the dog until 5:30. They close at 6. Questions come to mind. Why wait a week to see the dog? They could have met him when they were there to fill out an application. How could they have time for a dog if they're so busy they couldn't meet him for a week.
There's something rotten in Denmark. We won't be disappointed, cuz in the back of our minds somebody already has this deal locked up.
Hopefully there is a someone with a brain running that place and they can put 2x2 together.if you have to go for second meeting rub some treats around your pockets so the dog keeps nuzzling you like he picked you

We'll keep that in mind, and bring a horse head for back up.
Don't give me that shit. You will be very disappointed. I hope that for the dog's sake they choose you.

I hope so, too. I've never been so excited about getting a dog.

Dog update please
WE GOT HIM. HE'S OURS. WOO!! HOO!! Provided we pass the home inspection. They're going to schedule that and call us back.
Whoopee!!!!! You know you will pass the home inspection. I'm so happy for you :-*
Thanks, Liz. We're pretty happy.
Great good for the dog and you. I guess there is still some people in the world that do the right thing looks like he is going to be easy to spoil
Gale works wonders with dogs. I'm just a bystander. She gives them more love than you could imagine. The first two Mastiffs we had I didn't warm up to very fast, but after they get to you, you're hooked. This time it's different. I'm already primed and ready to go. Like a kid at Christmas. Think of it. . . a purebred French Mastiff with all documentation just eight months old at a shelter? How lucky is that?
YOu'll have to think of Cinco de Mayo as your lucky day from now on.
Wonderful news !!!....we're both happy for you, and your new found family member...
...now... huh...what's his/her name huh.....forgot to ask the gender....and.........more pics, more pics... ;)

Gale had a Neopolitan Mastiff when I met her.
The Neopolitan's are too extreme for my taste. I look at the ones in the pic and I think, a "250 lb skin problem"
Your Dogue de Bordeaux is much more pleasing to me. I can't wait to see the pics when you get him.
He is beautiful. I wish you could see him in person. Gale says he's got feet like manhole covers.
Very happy for you and Gale, and the dog too! Things just have a way of working out for the best sometimes. ;)
Dennis
....just catching up...that's great news, Cap'n Bob...! Good on you! |^|
The dog saga ends.
Every time the shelter said they would call me, they didn't. I had to call them. It was a long time between news of what was going on. Then, on a Saturday while we were gone, they called to schedule a home visit for later in the day. Gale and I both thought the massage said they would call to re-schedule. Well, this time I didn't call them for information. A week later Gale called and left a message. They called back and said they didn't hear from us in 24 hours. So according to their policy, they started a new application and gave the dog to them. All they had to do was pick up the phone. Instead, they started a whole new application process. Not meant to be.
Sorry Bob. That sucks.
Dennis
