I brought him home today. I wanted him yesterday but I had to sit on my thumb waiting for a late pick-up.
Mr. Berkin is such a nice man. As he was driving me back to his ship in The Beast he told me that when he was checking the fuel pressure he had The Beast floored. I read that it had to be done at full throttle but I didn't feel that I could ask him to do that out there with houses around. A cop passed him going in the other direction. Thank God the cop didn't turn around and give him a ticket.
We also talked about the rattle he said comes from the torque converter. He said he knows a guy who has driven over 100,000 miles with his making the same noise. It does it only at idle. Once it's under power the sound goes away. I didn't even know what a torque converter was. It appears that it's a part of the transmission :o. I looked it up when I got home and didn't find much but I found this. Posts 5 and 6 were encouraging. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/701974-cost-of-replacing-torque-converter.html I may do the thing with changing the oil in post #5. Otherwise I will ignore it until it decides to quit shifting which I hope it never does.
Mr Berkin has always wanted me to keep The Beast. He knows of 2 with the same engine that had over a million miles on them!!!!! Considering his resale value I guess I'll be keeping him.
Well the beast is home.....good, it's where he belongs.. |^|
The torque converter is like the clutch of an automatic transmission Liz. I know when I was drag racing my Chevy II, a different size torque converter can make a world of difference launching from a dead stop..... not really what you would want in street driven vehicle though LOL
