I'll keep trying to contact his owner.  There were three numbers on his collar.  Two are no longer working numbers and the third just rings forever and nobody picks up.

He was wary of me at first but he's come to trust me.  He's curled up beside my chair as I type.  He made a place for himself among my barking multitudes.  He's a looker, too.  His ears are what first turned me on.  They're like the ears of a French Bulldog.  He's built like a too tall Dachshund.  He is the most beautiful chocolate color with enough white places to set off  his unusual shade of brown.  And he's a hoot.  He is a very well endowed testosterone filled little man.  He was all about my girl dogs but they put him in his place.  It was funny.

I hope I get to keep him.  I'll keep trying to reach his owner through Sunday.  If nobody picks up the phone the dog will be mine.

No pics until I'm sure he is my dog.

Studly almost got me into trouble today.  I stopped by Jack and Judy's house to pick up their daughter's dog for grooming.  When I came out of their house, studly was their waiting by my truck.  I hauled ass the rest of the way up my road and around the corner to the other road to the main road.  I thought that every thing was fine until I delivered the grooming dog back.

They knew about this little guy because I spoke to Judy about him on the phone yesterday.  Jack and Judy had seen him after I drove off.  None of the others in the family gathering had.  Their daughter who lives close asked what my new guy looks like.  I started to describe him and she put her hands up by the sides of her face like dog bat ears.  I said, "yep, that's him".  She said that her 12 yrear old Bassett was in heat.  She said that her dog was in a pen but my dog was at her place.

After the visit and a glass of wine almost forced on me by Jack, I drove down to April's place to get my dog out of her life.  Studly was in the pen with the Basset bitch!  When I saw that I died a thousand deaths and phoned her and told her.  She said that was no big deal.  She tried to breed her bitch to another Basset when she was younger and she never took.  I was still worried until I noticed her little dog Boudroux... He has Pug and a lots of other stuff in him.  He is also all man.  He could also get in and out of the pen!  He is smaller than my guy but he could do it.  Dogs like Boudroux and Studly can find a way.

He's home now.  He has actually howled a few times.  None of my dogs howl and I have hound mixes!

I guess if I get to keep him I'll have to have his nuts wacked.  All my dog my other dogs are neutered.    I hate to have it done to my little man because his testosterone  is so much a part if his endearing personality.

I have an address for the owners.  They live in Pendorff.   Pendorff is about as as bad as it sounds.  It's just down the road a piece from my shop but it's a different world.  Perhaps all of the little community isn't as bad as the part I've seen.   I am going to have to drive to Studly's address tomorrow and ether talk to somebody or leave a note on their door.  I have to make myself jump through all the hoops to find the dog's real home before I can keep him.  A dog thief is worse that a chicken thief.

Good news.  A lady just picked up when I dialed the number on Studly's collar.  I asked her if she was missing a little dog.  She said,  "We ain't got no dog".  The only thing left to do is to take a picture of him and send it to the neighbor's daughter who does the Facebook thing.  She is better than I would like at finding people's missing dogs using social media.  If the owner doesn't appear I will have jumped through all the hoops there are to jump through and the little man will be mine.

Alas, I am on the trail of the owner.  The daughter of the lady who I spoke to this morning called.  She said, "That's Harley.  He's my ex boyfriend's dog.  She isn't sure how to contact him but she says she can track him down.  I'm sad, but the little dude really cheered me up when I needed a good cheering up.

That won't happen.  I told the lady that I'd be happy to buy the dog is the ex boyfriend doesn't want him back.    She said that the Harley followed her ex's every step.  That they adored oneanother.  It doesn't sound like she's mad at her ex.  They have just moved on in their separate directions.  She figures he is staying with a guy known as "Squirrel" who lives in Ellisville.

I know that Studly will be delighted to be reunited with his dad.  God will send me another dog when he's ready.

Studly's ex mom called me earlier.  We had a nice chat and made each other laugh about males and testosterone.

Just now I got a call from Oklahoma.  I never answer out of State calls.  They always want to sell me something.  Then Oklahoma left a voice mail.  He was a very well spoken polite young man calling about Harley.  I called him back.  I asked him about the Oklahoma phone number and he said "Well, it makes it harder for them to track you".  I didn't go into it.  I don't want to know.  This is about the dog.  The phony Oklahoma guy said that he was not Harley's owner, that he was calling for his owner because Tony, the owner has a bad lisp and is hard to understand over the phone.  Tony will call me tomorrow afternoon and come pick up Harley.

This entire story about this dog from the finding him to almost getting him back to his owner has been through all sorts weird of twists and turns.  If Tony will allow it I'll take a pic of Harley when they are reunited.

I wish this guy would call and come.  Studly has finally started feeling very comfortable here.  I think that it's because this is the first day I haven't had to leave him to go to work.  He even grabbed one of the dog toys and started running around teasing me to try to get it from him.

The guy was supposed to be in touch with me this afternoon.  I know that 3:30 is still afternoon, but it will be evening soon enough.  I won't allow him to come if it'll be after dark.  Something about this doesn't feel quite right to me.  I can't put my finger on it.

I'm not concerned about him not being the dog's owner.  The ex girl friend said the dogs name before I said it.  The dog will love him because dogs love their owners, period.

You're right.  I got the feeling after talking to the well spoken young man who is local but whose number comes up as Olahoma.  He said he does that because "it makes it harder for them to track you."  That was weird.

Unfortunately, I gave the well spoken young man my address.  I'm not used to being distrustful of people.  For me, it was all about Tony coming and getting his dog.

Jack and Judy put up a camera that sets off an alarm in their house between their house and their low life druggie grandson's house.  They'll know if anybody comes down my road.  I'll tell them my concerns tomorrow.  They're friends with Poncho, to.

I kept thinking that I was being paranoid but I've never been paranoid.  It's just not my style.  It's good to be told that is doesn't sound quite right to you.

I won't do that.  It's not my style.  I have Jack and Judy, and Poncho, and 8 dogs.  My bases are covered.

Who knows, perhaps Tony has decided that I can give the dog a better home than he can.  I hope so.  This is so strange.  If someone had found a dog of mine and had done everything to find me and them found me, I would rush right over for my dog.  It's almost dark and I have not gotten a call.

Let me tell you, My Captain, my veterinarian pleaded with me to get a gun.  Poncho thinks that I should have a gun.  I have never felt the need for a gun.  I don't want to feel the need for a gun.  What if I were to give up all hope and use it on myself?  That wouldn't be good.  I'll muddle on as I always have.
Title: Re: I may nave new dog

I won't plead with you. Guns have a way of making some people safe, yet others feel unsafe around them.

1) Guns are not for everybody.

2) You are way too smart to give up all hope and use it on yourself

3) I'm always available for a recommendation when you're ready

When I worked at the gun shop the standing question/joke was how many guns I was carrying that day. I've cut way down. LOL

No, but I did call Judy and tell her everything.  She thinks that I was stupid for giving the guy who is not from Oklahoma my address.  I guess she's right, but I did it out of innocence wfwf  She said that the alarm was on and she would call me.  She made sure that I had Poncho's number in my phone.

I am making something of nothing.  I'm getting old, demented and fearful.  If getting old, demented and fearful isn't a good excuse for putting a gun to your head, what is? ;)

Don't make me come down there, Liz.

It would be perfectly normal to give your address to a guy picking up a lost dog.

You could call the fake Oklahoma guy and see what's up . . . . .

Thank you for the good advice, My Captain.  I called the guy.  He didn't answer.  I left a strong message on his voice mail saying basically, You told me that this would happen and it didn't happen.  What's up with that?

You don't need to come down here.  Don't tell, but my biggest reason for being fearless is that acting fearless when I am fearful is part of me.  It took me a while to figure out that when I acted fearless people who had no reason too fear me even feared me.  It was the strangest thing.  I'm sorry that I came across as fearful in my earlier posts.  It has never happened before and it will never happen again.

Thanks, Liz. I feel better.

My next advice you don't even need but, I'm giving it anyway. Keep the dog and don't call anybody. You did your best and you are right. If my dog were lost, I'd beat feet to wherever he/she was and get them.

Always remember, we're always here for any advice you may or may not need. LOL

I've sold a lot of stuff on CL and lately Offer Up...I have some concerns sometimes giving my address out and usually meet them in a public parking lot, like Costco or something....but I think that may be a little harder for you...

I'm like the others here...if he wanted his dog back he would have beat the path there...

Any of your dogs Rottweilers?

If I had been thinking straight I would have had the guy come to my shop to pick up his dog tomorrow.  Like I said,  I'm too naive.  I'll use my head in the future.

I don't have any Rotty's but I have a Chow.  He's a gentle dog but I've always had the feeling that he has the protective instinct.  He has never been in a position where it had to come out but I think it's in him.  I also have a Lhasa Apso mix who just about doesn't like anyone but me.  She would lay down her life for me but she would lay it down for nothing.  One swift kick would put her out of action.  All the other dogs just make a lot of noise when someone new drives up.

Little Studly jumped on the bed with the 4 other small bed sleeping dogs.  The night before I tried to lift him on the bed but he was having none of that!  It wasn't his idea.  It had to be his idea.  The little dude has really started bonding with me.

The time is 1:58.  No call from the owner yet.  I walked way up to the mail box with all the dogs this morning.  Studly follow along.  Then I discovered that I made a mistake and bought the wrong fitting to hook up the new air system.  I needed to go from 1" slip to 3/4" FPT.  The coupling I bought my mistake had threads on the outside.  I dug through my box of PVC couplings and I did not have the right thing nor could I find what I needed to make it.  I called Jack.  He didn't think he had it but he went out to dig through his box of PVC fittings.  I went to jump into Charlotte.  Studly was right by me.  I said, "OK, hop in".  He hopped right in and we drove to Jack's.  This is the first time he has hopped willingly into the truck.

Studly finally feels like he and I belong together.  I pray the former owner never calls.

I know.  I'll see how the dog reacts and ask a lot of questions.  Y'all know that I'm fond of the little guy, but the most honest honorable thing is to return him to his owner.  Could be his owner really does have a speech impediment of some kind and is afraid to talk on the phone.  I donno.  this is my reward for trying to do the right thing wfwf
