I may be sending a couple of fish to Hawaii and I am in need of a 24 hr. heat pack.  Since I generally only ship to up north all I have is the 72 hr. type.  I'm afraid that the 72 hr would cook the fish as they got to the tropics.  Can anyone here help?

not sure about the 24hr...I think those are 'sport' packs??....but a 40 hr reaches the same max temp as a 72 hr....the 72's just take a little longer to reach max temp, but sustain it longer....you can use a 'box in a box' method and use the 72 hr between the boxes....works nicely and doesn't cook the fish......plane cargo bays are not heated either, so that'll protect against the cold while in the air...

That's a perfect solution Mug, thanks.

Just because I don't want to hear you are heart broken you lost some nice Angels does this person have the permits needed to bring in the fish. Hawaii does have a ban on bringing in tropical fish.

LizStreithorst

Thank you, George.  That's something that never entered my mind.  He's bought lots of fish from people on Aqauabid, mostly guppies and Angels so he may.  But from what I gather he's just a plain hobbyist who wants something not locally available, so I doubt it.  I will ask him.

I wasted a lot of time looking it up but got lost and couldn't find what needed to know.  It occurred to me that my dear friend Hansie would have it in his head.  I emailed him and he got back to me immediately.  This is what he said:

"the buyer has to get a permit on Hawaii, cost $20.00 (if I?m correct) he has to send it to you and the permit has to go with box of fish.  Best is to attach a copy on the outside of the box, prevent them from opening the box. Without the permit they will send it back or destroy the box."

Hans is a good man with a kind heart.

From what I've read on his feedback....he knows about the permit, and is very prompt about getting it to the seller.......

I should have read his feedback more carefully.  All I noticed is that sellers were happy with him.  He may just blow me off because I didn't think I could guarantee live delivery to him until I found out that I could get my fish to him overnight.  If he has the money I can send him exactly what he yearns for, a male and female adult HB ps veil.

I'm not the easiest seller to deal with.  He might just blow me off.  I sure do have exactly what he wants.  For some stupid reason I would love to sell my best fish to far away.  It  being a special order makes it even more fun.  Am I nuts?

I didn't know they needed permits to ship tropical fish. It make sense given there climate. I hope everything works out good for you Liz.
