...spawned in an 8 gallon tank with the Hamburg Mattenfilter a day ago. Lots of floating plants, 3 females, one male and 3 caves on a bare bottom. 70-72F. I'm going to try to follow the advice the fellow I got them from in a trade for plants and try to raise the fry. They sure are pretty fish...

Too Many Fish. Not Enough Tanks.

The interesting thing is that I plopped in 3 different caves, 1 pleco cave, and 2 Apisto caves. He chose the larger of the 2 Apisto caves....! It's about 3.5" diameter X 2.5" tall, and the eggs are on the very back side of it.  I wrote the fellow I got them from and he wrote back describing the "tube" caves very similar to the ones in the video. Only he didn't wrap them in Java moss.  I may try this the next time.

He does say to take the cave out just before they hatch or just after, or else remove the male, and place them in their own tank, otherwise he may eat them. Nothing like live food...right!?!?!

Liked the video...Thanks!

I did move the cave with the male and wigglers in it into another aquarium about this past Monday, but he has not been out when I've been in there watching for him. I don't think I can effectively shake the cave and get him out.

Just saw Daddy Peacock out of the cave! No wigglers in it though. Then I saw a fry scoot across the bottom over the substrate..!  I got Daddy P out and he's back with his not-so-virgin 3 females and within 3 minutes as I write this he's displaying to them again. Gotta get those little tube caves made soon!!

He's a horny little devil! He hasn't quit courting the gals since I put him in there. Must be glad to get away from the kids!!!!! ;)  Every so often a female leads him into the cave. He follows and comes out with a smile on his face..!  |^|

The tank is right next to my computer and I'm spending too much time watching this!

So the wigglers I left in the small take with Daddy and the other 3 adult female gudgeons didn't make it  while I was gone, but, true to form, Daddy Peacock is back in the cave with another spawn of wigglers!  The original spawn of fry are growing a little faster now with more feedings through the day. Still small though.

About 25-35 in this spawn. But I left them in the tank with the parents.
Gradually they began to disappear until now they are gone.  I feed them well and watch them eat. I don't see the adults going after them. Never any little corpses on the bare tank bottom.
I'fe tried to find out if Peacock Gudgeons are nocturnal feeders. Does anyone know? Or have a suggestion of where to look for this?
