...First time in many years....It was a 20 gal with just a few angel fry, and a young BN pair, with newly hatched fry in the cave with dad.....all are gone....sad, but it could have been much worse....

Doing a good heater check in a bit....I checked a few and they are ok. I've been slowly replacing them all anyway, I better just speed up the process...

Sorry to hear this Jon. :(  The same thing happened to me a couple of years ago and I lost a whole 75g tank full of Africans Cichlids. :'( The only fish that survived were some Giant Danios that I started that tank up with. ??? It almost made me give up the hobby. Glad that I didn't.

Thanks Willie, things like this happen occasionally, you just hope the collateral damage is minimal that's all.

So sorry to hear that Jon....and you too Willie.   :(   I lost a colony of very pretty crystal red shrimp in a 10 gallon tank to a heater malfunction.  Sadly too many of us know that awful feeling of seeing what was a healthy tank totally lifeless....

I wonder if there's anyone who has been into fish for any length of time who this hasn't happened to.  Sorry for the loss, Mug.

That is why I run 2 heaters at half the required wattage each.
Well that's what I did when I lived up north. Never had a problem when they stopped working either off or on.

I've had heaters stuck on, but been very lucky to catch it at like 90-92. Fish seemed fine. Maybe we all need to wire up those controllers.  Like here: http://forum.simplydiscus.com/showthread.php?117110-20-00-Controller-how-to-wiring-(easy)

I use 2 heaters also in the big tanks. But kinda hard to do in the small tanks
