Title: Canister filters
Post by: Mugwump on January 25, 2018, 05:39:11 AM
..who here runs canister filters?.....we had an old one and didn't really for them....they don't do a bad job but can be an unnecessary hassle when servicing them.... huh

..the newer ones look cool....but a bit high price wise....

I have one that I run on the 150. It is due for a servicing but it's still doing it's job. The fish in that tank are doing great. I will probably service it again this week and then I may not touch it again for another 6 months.

...are you running carbon too ?........I had an old UV filter that I'd run on the 110..it was undersized for the job, but did a great job of helping to keep the water clear....there was a window over there where the sun came full blast on most that end of the tank....algae was hard to control. ...between that, and the old 405 canister, the water would sparkle....had under gravel filters at both ends only.....folks forget just how efficient those ugf's were.....

I may go for a similar set up for the 130 when I redo it..... huh

I run one in the 125 display tank at the shop.  I'm happy with it but prefer sponges for the fish room.

No carbon. I only use carbon when I need to remove medications.
