Seems as though Tanked has finished filming another episode in Tampa. They must love the Tampons.
They've done either 3 or 4 in this area.
I've never watched it....... huh
Good, don't. They are good tank builders but they are HORRIBLE at stocking fish. They put a PANGIUS SHARK IN A 6 GALLON!!!! Just because the little boy wanted fish that looked like sharks.

I watched a couple of shows. I am not a fan. ::)
I like the tanks them selves and I respect their tank building but they are TERRIBLE at stocking fish. If I ever got them to make a tank for me, I would make sure they knew NOT to stock it. Just build it and go away.

You've got to understand how they film and why. If you take the wine bottle tank episode for instance when the owner walks in the mostly stay away from the inside of the tank and closeups. Then afterwards they do the tight shots. In many episodes they don't actually add fish for a few days after the "final" shoot. They actually do acclimate the fish. Also the tanks are purposely overstocked so they can get the "money" shots. The owner signs a contract to rehome the extra livestock. As far as I know here in the Tampa area all the tanks that they have built are maintained by professional maintenance companies.
That wine bottle tank lost most of its fish because the owner got cocky. He has other salt tanks as does one of his employees. He didn't rehome the fish.
They also have a pro on site for five days after filming to keep tabs on the tank.
Thing to remember is not all the scenes we see were shot in the order we see them and they are heavily edited for time.
And I found out yesterday a buddy of mine was contacted by A&E for him to do a pilot. Ya'll might see me on A&E.

That's all likely true....but 'Joe Blow' new hobbyist only sees smoke and mirrors, and the end product and they think it's all that easy.....the show just gives a false impression how it really needs to be done...
I tried to watch it a couple times,STUPID ass ideas for tanks, between that and the kooky cast i started getting a stomach ache so i had to turn it off.Next
I wish they would do more freshwater tanks
I got a bad taste in my mouth when they set a tank up that could be used as a skateboard ramp. Fish were in the tank and guys skate boarded up the ramp, flipped the board around in a trick move and everyone was happy and impressed.....except for the fish I'm sure.

It's cookie cutter "reality". A project comes in. There's a mini crisis. It's solved. Major crisis. Solved. Reveal. Every damn reality show follows the same stupid footprint. They all suck not just tanked.

Yes,yes they do.They are all barf worthy.
I bet I could do a better job then them. Don't take me up on that bet just trust me ;D.

Are you judging from experiences of your own children ,or maybe yourself at that age.
Or do you just distrust all teens/children/people.
I think we're talking two different things....they do it over many days, as a team.. only showing the highlights on the show....the average hobbyist would take much longer assembling everything and setting up something similar.....
..for all we know, behind the scenes they might be doing things (semi-) correctly ??
I've watched almost all of the shows, some are quite silly, but some have been rather good. My suggestion to them, as if they care ;D , would be to either speak it, or have it written on screen that:
This is done over periods of time, with much more detail than shown, and it is not the way a mere hobbyist would do it. They once did a huge tank of live plants and discus. It came out well, but probably didn't last long as a healthy tank.

I am pretty sure they have a company on board at the onset Jon. They've used the same one here for at least two of the episodes shot in Tampa and St. Leo.

My question was in fact in the form of a question. I never said I distrusted anyone. I asked BigB why we would trust him. And he answered. He doesn't know why we should.
BTW my son is only 6. I don't trust him to set up a fish tank.
Yet.
Why do you judge me based on my age? Do you look down on people who are young? Just because we are young doesn't mean anything. I know some kids my age that I would trust with a loaded gun. Not all kids are immature, of course some kids just make you wonder how they still have all their teeth with all the stupid crap they say. I happen to be one of those mature kids.
Ok hold up. Now that I have thought about it some more, I know why. Because I can stock it better then they could. I know more about stocking fish then they do and I know which types of fish can get along better then they do. That is why you should trust me.

Me too.....but it had to rattle around a bit before it came out..... ;D....
Yeah, when I'm put on the spot my mind goes blank sometimes. It just takes me a while to write what I meant.
Its ften good to take a moment to think about things before doing something or jumping to conclusions.

I didn't judge you at all. I simply asked you a question.
When my nephew was about your age he'd spend time with us. We were both railfans. He could give me the specs on locomotives better than I could.
Like I said, I just asked you a question.
Oh I'm sorry then. I took when you said why would we trust a 14 year old as being judgmental.

One thing to take into account though is that while this is a tv show they are building these tanks for clients. While we may be able to scape and stock the tanks better than they do would our stocking be in line with the client's ideas?
I've been designing printed collateral for decades. While I can pretty much smoke on design I have to bite my tongue and in the end run what they want. I've told more than one not to ever tell who did the formatting. They were paying for it so my creative license was revoked. So while we may not like the end result we still have to do it. They're paying our salary. Same thing with ATM I would venture but they have the added pressure of doing it for TV.

Not unlike situations with clients hiring me to list and sell their homes for them. I give them a good solid and honest market analysis in order to price their homes right to sell in a reasonable period of time and they say, "I know it's worth more than that". So, I go ahead and list it at the price they just "know" it will sell for and wait until they are tired of no showings or no offers. Finally they hear the POP and start listening to me and I get the house sold. Meanwhile, the length of time it is on the market extends way past where it should and makes it look like I advised the client poorly.
Unfortunately for you, G8, your people probably don't come to you and say to fix it....or do they?
They once put sharks on one side of the tank with baby crocodiles/ alligators. They used a glass divider.

Sometimes they do. Most of the times not. I send pdf proofs for about everything I do and they sign off on it. I warn them multiple times that while I provide the pdfs and if they want digital proofs the final product off of offset will probably look different. Especially when it comes to blues. They always want to go purple. It has a lot to do with cyan ink being "dirty". I don't even go into calibrated monitors and reflected vs transmitted light. If they have multiple monitors I will have them put the same image on all of them and the difference is obvious though.
