Terri's surgery was a great success yesterday.
This morning we were able to lower her sedation to a point where she looked and me and was able to nod yes & no to some questions. We have been in this catch-22 where the neurologist couldn't do a proper assessment because of the sedation and we couldn't lower the sedation because she was intubated.
Both the respiratory folks and the pulmonologist said she sounded much improved this morning and she even tried to smile at Dr. Ranginwala her pulmonologist.
After about 30 minutes of this her heart rate started to increase due to the anxiety of the trach tube and all that was going on, so they bumped her sedation back up a bit to calm her down.
She looks a fright with all the tubes and hoses attached to her, but at least we found out today she is still with us.
Thanks again for all your support in my hour of need.
Dennis
That's good news indeed.... |^| Now she can gain some strength back and get better. I'm happy for you and your family, Dennis. ;D
...We're continuing our good thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery. |^|
Great news Dennis.
Best Wishes.
I'll second Jon's thought.
Wonderful news, Dennis. It was the candles ;) I started a Virgin of Guadalupe one this morning before work.
You folks are the very best! THANK YOU
Dennis
That's great news, Dennis. prayers continuing.
Thanks Willie. We've got a long way to go yet before she's ready to come home. :(
Dennis
It's wonderful to hear that Terri was responsive this morning Dennis. That's a relief. May she continue to improve. Prayers are still going your way.
Wonderful news Dennis! May she continue to make good progress and come home to you soon. My husband went through almost the exact same thing you have described with Terri. He made a full recovery. And he is 78.
Barb
Really happy to know she's doing well now. Lots of happy, wellness thoughts coming to you from here in WA.
Thanks Pauline, Barb, and Ron!
Dennis
Great news!!! Still praying for her and your family

Any update Dennis?
On Thursday the hospitol decided that they want to discharge her to a Long-Term-Care-Facility south of Dayton, about 45 minutes from here. One of their specialties is weaking people off of a ventalator.
They say she will not be discharged until they can get her stable..... Currently, each time they lower her sedation her blood pressure and heart rate go through the ceiling. The cardiologist says it's nothing to do with her heart, but her bodys reaction to her lungs being so bad.
Before we went ahead with the trach & PEG, I sat down with my kids and some of the Doctors and we decided to give her 30 days to show improvement. If after that time, if she is not getting better we will re-evaluate and likely change her code again. I have already changed it to a DNRCCA as per her wishes.
Somehow, I've managed to let myself become ill, but I'm feeling much better today that yesterday. Mr. Spock has failed me on several occiasions lately as I've been on this emmotional roller coaster.
Thanks again for your continuing support.
Dennis
Dennis, would she be a candidate for a lung transplant? I've heard that they've had great success lately.
We'll contimue to keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Take care of yourself, my friend...and eat better too.
I'll continue praying for and thinking of you and Terri Dennis. Take care of yourself even though that's difficult when you're going through this with a loved one.
Praying still.
Thank you for the update, Dennis. Getting her out of the hospital is good. Lots of nasties in there. I hope she will heal and get better soon.
Good thoughts and prayers headed your way.
Still sending lots of good thoughts your way Dennis, hang in there. It is tough, I know.
Barb
Hang in there Dennis we are with you 100 percent. Good thoughts and prayers headed your way.
Thanks folks for all the support.
I'm gettig a bit depressed that she has not improved any in 21 days, and also wondering if the LTACH's will be interested in her. They all boast about their success ratings and I'm not so sure she fits their profile.
The case manager said the LTACH would send someone up to evaluate her before agreeing to take her in, so maybe that will happen tomorrow. Well more cold tablets and early to bed, 5:00am comes way too soon.
Dennis
Rest up.....sleep tight... |^|
Hugs Dennis...... praying you get good news.
Best Wishes Dennis.
Try to maintain your health.
Thanks folks. Just spoke with the LTACH rep and it looks like we're going to Kindred Hospitol Dayton. http://www.khdayton.com/our-services/ (http://www.khdayton.com/our-services/)
Google says it's only about 45 minutes away.
They have glowing reviews on-line and a very nice write-up in the Dayton paper. Seems as though many of the ICU nurses have either worked there or have friends that work there.
Dennis
That's great news. I've had the virgin of Guadalupe candles the after I read what it said on the candle, it seems to be more a candle to light for a prayer for yourself. I didn't know. I've never been much of a Catholic. I have to run into town to the PO today. I'll pick up a bunch of the Saint Francis ones. They will work better. They're more for praying for a friend. Expect improvement soon :)
That's wonderful news Dennis..... ;D....and our thoughts and prayers continue too......

It was saint Jude, not Saint Francis. All I know is that he works better than the Virgin of Guadalupe.
That's great news Dennis. ;D ;D ;D
Well, we are all settled in at Kindred Hospitol Dayton. I guess time will tell.....
Dennis
Swell ....let the healing begin ...our thoughts and prayers continue...
Have you gotten any rest yet?....are you eating well??.....stop for a meal instead of a burger, ya hear..?
Praying for you. Take care of yourself to. I know it's hard to do
Dennis, you hang in there and take care of yourself so you can take care of her.
Dennis, I have been sending good thoughts your and Terri`s way. Hope she will get better at this new hospital. We have one like that here by us and they do great work. As you know I don`t get on here much, but I do think about everyone on here. Take care of yourself and get better so when Terri comes home you can take care of her. Give her hugs from us all and tell her we all know that she will get better and go home.
Thanks everyone! Doc at the new place seems confident he can get her patched up. I'm not holding my breath, but still hopeful.
Dennis
Keep hopeful Dennis, we all are. Sending best healthful thoughts her way today.
Barb
Still wishing you guys the best Dennis.
Good news Dennis.
Hoping things continue to improve.
How is Terri doing? You?
