?Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ?Wow! What a Ride!? ~ Hunter S. Thompson

Hans is something else.  He's the only one in the States who actually makes his living selling imported Discus.  It's a side line for everybody else.  It doesn't surprise me that he has figured out the best way to do things in the fish room.

I've known him from when he first came to the States.  I know what he went though to get to where he is today.  He is honest and has a kind heart.  He is a good man.

I was particularly interested because Stephan said on his first ever import of the Poret foam, 1/2 of it went to Hans.  It was interesting to see how he has it set-up.  Works like an old style "trickle filter" at a waste water treatment plant.

Too Many Fish. Not Enough Tanks.

That is amazing!

On a side note, I was at my LFS today. They sell Hans' Stendker discus. They had a new tank set up with full grown adults in it. They were absolutely HUGE discus...bigger than I ever thought a discus could get.
When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because those weirdos are your tribe.  (Sweatpants & Coffee)

Stendkers always grow big if they're cared for properly. They are hardy.  They're very prolific.  They are 100% healthy because  their fish houses are closed to new fish and visitors alike.  The only thing they lack that the Asian imports possess is elegance.  You can get both if you breed German to Asian and keep your fingers crossed that you don't loose the German attributes when you select for the elegance ::)
