Title: split pea soup
Post by: LizStreithorst on December 21, 2014, 04:04:46 PM
OMG, it was wonderful.  Better than the lima bean soup last week.  I can't believe I thought I'd be able to eat an entire ham, but I don't have much left.

I did something I've never done with split pea soup before.  My ham is called a HoneyBaked ham and the honey flavor is good with it.  At the end of cooking I stirred a tablespoon of honey into the pot.  I hope I don't forget that trick when I make split pea in the future.

I like split pea soup too.....my Grandmother's both took a potato masher and pumped the soup a couple times to squash up some peas...same with navy bean soup.... really pops the flavor out...and makes both soups thicker too....MMMMmmmmm

I love pea soup, I make it often in winter.  I add the peas, carrots, onion, celery, parsley, seasonings, country ham pieces,  and let it cook for 2-3 hrs.  The peas just dissolve.  Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm  Good bread is all that is needed.
