This spawn is looking very healthy too....good streamers....
Really hard to get a good shot of their colors showing, but they're only a week or so free swimming and showing signs of being an exceptional spawn. These are from a pairing off the 'One eyed Willy' and 'Princess' lines. This has been a ptoject of mine, over the years they have been crossed and recrossed with my 'original' line. There has been no outside angel stock brought in the use, except 8 dimes from Jeff Bollbach (Lute17) back in 2006. They were used to cross into 4 different lines and then selected fry were grow for use in further crossing. The 'Original' pair were two Blue Koi from a Gold Marble ghost spawn. I'm enjoying the ride...LOL...it's nice to see it all change and grow..over and over.....
Parents....
WOW ;)
A little better shot of the spawn.....colors show up better anyway...LOL
Thanks Aron....time will tell..but this shows signs of being a good one....
Too cool! So exciting to watch them grow into little angels!
Them are looking good.
Very Nice!!!
Nice looking fish Jon, congratulations on the spawn! ;)
Dennis
Very, very nice Jon! Great sign showing that much color that young!
Shazam!!! WOW!!! now that is cool
Thanks folks, I was eye balling them this afternoon and the dark is starting to come in...I want to 'cherry pick' the one's with the most marbling this time around.
Your koi look great Jon! I love the profile of the parents' heads.

Thanks, Josh....a lot of fry, and cross's were done to start to get these. Worth the trip...LOL...I have a few more cross's to try. I need to be able to get better Koi, and sustain the line. Next up is adding getting more red..especially in the crown..

Sounds like we need to do some swapping around there JM
The Koi fry are starting to get some little spikes....about time to move them...
Well, they be moved.... 8)
At what size will you start selling these, Mug? I'm asking for a friend who will want some but who hates the internet.
I normally start selling off some at quarter sized bodies....sometimes smaller if the person knows how to care for fry.
This guy knows how. I will make him come over one afternoon after work and look a the pics of the parents. He will go bonkers.
What size tank do you moved them to at that size? Is that a ten or a 20? With all the young fry I have right now I'm running out of space for small tanks and jars.
I put them in a 30 long....they're doing fine. With a smaller batch, I'd have used a 20gal...
Damn a 30 long for spike fry. How many fry is there?
There looking good Jon.

I really haven't counted...100-200....??...I did a small cull for weaker fry...if I was raising a real delicate spawn and had 50+ fry..they'd be in a 10gal.....It's likely that I'll end up with about a 100 or so to grow out. I'm being very selective with this batch...I'm going to pull another when they spawn again today/tomorrow...
I'll split the present batch up in a week, as I see the growth spurts from them..or maybe just toss em all in a 55, and select from there to put in another 55...???...
So far they've been in the 30 long about a week...growing very good, check the other vid above,
They're ,also, showing the black that I'm after...doesn't show too well in the clip, but a good bunch are 50% black coverage....makes for some real nice Koi expression.
There looking good. It so hard to get a picture or video of fry. They don't stay still.
Very nice. I see some of the dark ones with the black that you're looking for. It's interesting watching them develop.
They're looking good....what I can see of them as they're whizzing by. :)
Yeppers, I know..even if you click the screen and pause it....they're a blur.... 8)
OK, just moved them to a 55 gal this morning. Here's a vid of week 6. They're bigger now and it's easier to see how well they're coloring up. I'm very pleased.....they're gorgeous...
Started them on even larger bits of flake this morn'n....top of the water was a froth....LOL
Looks like I'll have to split em up now....getting bigger.... :D
Great news on their growth... They must be looking really good too.
That's cool, you put them in two 55's?
yep, at least....I need to start 'cherry pick'n' some too.... ;D..there's some beaut's in there....
Here's a vid of at about 8wks. Splitting them up today and tomorrow. Also, the 'cherry picking' begins...
Ooooooh Jon. Nice...very nice!
Thanx, folks....actually just sold some too.... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Selecting for yourself is one of the fun parts. Have fun.
Very NICE!!
Is there a couple in there that are half blacks?

No, but it's the black that I find attractive in Koi...this last cross did the trick, unrelated parents(different lines) so I can sibling cross and work this line a bit more....

I saw the ones you noticed with partly black dorsals and wondered the same thing myself. Is there such a thing as a half black orange Angel? It sure 'nuf would be a fun project to nail down a strain like that.

It's been tried, but the gold is recessive, and in double dose, and inhibits certain expressions...the gold marble gene masks some also....I've had spawns ,years ago, where almost all had the back heavily marbled, sold like hot cakes....it's an attraction feature to many, myself included...
