Anyone keep these?...or know a good source??....A friend of ours has a son that's looking for a few to raise/keep in a terrarium.

True chameleon or an anole?

I have had kids that kept them both.
In the past we got our from a local petstore, but after my experience getting the Red Eyed Tree Frogs I would consider getting them from on line.
Specialists in certain species will probably have healthier animals, and a greater variety. The frogs we got were very large compared to what the local stares had.
The stores in our area had very few which were small. I suppose this can vary with the locations.

I think our true chameleon die after the room got too cold once.
It was in a screen cage which could not be heated like an aquarium.

We had three, years ago when the boys were all young. We had a tall planted terrarium and went hunting for small crickets a lot....then we'd sit and try to find them....LOL...

I remember waaay back when chameleons were local and state fair items....like goldfish.  People would walk around the fairgrounds "wearing" chameleons. Wonder how many were lucky enough to end up in terrariums?

When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because those weirdos are your tribe.  (Sweatpants & Coffee)

Around here they sold lots of Anoles and called them Chameleons.  When I was a child, every fall we'd travel to southern Ohio to Home Coming. My dad's uncle Pearl would show me where to catch little lizards like anoles around the cistern.

My son has talked of trying to breed the Jackson's chameleon..... it's the one with the horns.

i have kept quite a few of these guys, i have a male veiled right now. i keep him in a large bird cage now that he is big enough.  with running water fall and spray twice a day. the veils are probably the easiest ones to keep. i have dad several. i had a big full grown male that we kept in the screened in porch in the summer time. he loved it. he got sprayed with the hose several time a day and had all kinds of stuff to climb on hung a buck to feed him. even let him roam the house to sometimes. he love my bay window. it had lots of plants and sunshine. as long as you have the correct lighting and running or bubbling water, with good ventilation and feed everyday they do really well, but all chameleons don't take to handling very well, some is ok, but to much and it stresses them out.
