Title: Happy Cinco de Mayo
Post by: LizStreithorst on May 05, 2022, 06:53:38 PM
And a good Thursday to you all.

My big news for the day is that the first of my young hens laid her very first eggs today.  I saw her walking around the shed where 2 older hens are broody looking and looking for a place.  She paced and scratched and looked under things and even jumped up on the half door considering whether to jump into the shed with the big hens.  She thought better of it.  The older hens can be mean to the young ones.  I had a feeling about what was on her mind.  Finally she walked over to and inside the chicken house.  I slyly snuck over and peaked in the window.  She was scratching around in boxes  I thought the hens might use as nest boxes.  I'd actually put fake eggs in them as encouragement.  I'll take them out tomorrow.  They did not appeal to her at all.  Finally she went over to a far corner and sat down.  When I got back from the supermarket I went in the chicken house and there was my egg!!!

Surely something else interesting must have happened but if it did I can't remember it.

Tomorrow won't start out fun.  The hen who was ill but I though was getting better has since gone down hill.  I'll put her out of her misery tomorrow.  I wanted to wait until Friday because it's garbage day.  I'll do the deed early and hide her body in the trash.

It's been another hot one here but I think I'm getting used to it.  I still haven't had to turn on the AC.  Luckily my bedroom is on the east side of the house.  I keep the door closed during the day to keep the dogs from playing on my bed and making a mess out of it.  As a result it's stays cooler than the rest of the place.  They say we have rain coming in tonight and from the feel of the air they're right.  That will cool us of some but not much.  It's summer in Mississippi.

I'll check in later to find out what the rest of you have been up to.  Right now I'm ready for a bath.

Hi Liz everyone. I guess we have all been busy today. I was out runny errands earlier and when I got home I got into moving fish around and putzing in the fishroom.

After all of the putzing around I looked at my watch and saw that it was almost 8:00 pm. huh Where did the day go?

Liz I am sorry to read about your older chicken but I am happy to hear about your new egg layer. We can't have chickens in this subdivision but we have plenty of chicken people in this town and they sell chicken eggs all over the town.

I hope everyone had a wonderful day. See you all tomorrow.
