Title: Happy Hump Day
Post by: Barb on September 08, 2021, 06:18:31 AM
Good morning folks!  Yesterday was the day to set up my 65 gal tank with plants, thanks Ron, in 50/50 rainwater and my hard alkaline tap water.  Took hours to do. Had to clean it out, clean about 50 lbs of gravel to put in, soil and Latterite first, wood with Anubias on it.  No fish for awhile.   Just when I was pouring rainwater in the tank, by 2 1/2 gal. containers, and was running low, it amazingly started to rain!!  There has been no rain here in about 2 weeks, my rainbarrel was very low.  In the 10 min of pretty hard rain it filled my rainbarrel and I had plenty of water for my job plus extra for my violets which I only use rainwater on.  Thank you Mother Nature!  It really made my day.  Hope you all have a good day today.

Good morning Barb and everyone. Barb, I'm glad you finally got a bit of rain. We are getting some rain later today and that's the last thing some people around here need.

The rain won't impact me much. I think I am going to look into collecting some rain water. Barb, does that increase the mosquito population around your house? My neighbors wouldn't be too happy about that if it does.

It is a nice day so far with temps getting into the mid 80s with plenty of sunshine but rain moves in this afternoon/evening with the possibility that some thorms may spawn tornadoes to our north.

I'm getting ready to do my water changes and I have to make a run to Wally World this afternoon. I misplaced my rubber mallet that I need to finish a rack I started setting up so I'll have to buy a new one. I bet that once I use the new one I'll find the old one. huh

Wishing you all a great day.

Good morning friends.  It's a lovely day here but we have a chance of thorms this afternoon.  My dirt can handle more rain but my last pot plant would prefer it to stay dry and sunny.

Every evening after WC lately I've been craving something sweet and I have no sweet snacks in the house.  I've been wanting to make nutella brownies for weeks now, but by the time the craving is upon me I'm too tuckered out from dealing with my spine to have the energy to make them.  It will be my second job today.  If I can't get it done early it doesn't get done.

Job one is to hang the remaining branches of pot to dry, leaves and all.

My AB customer paid yestereday morning.  He'd been out of town like I figured.  I'll ship out his 8 black rams tomorrow.  Pair number 3 ate their eggs so I need to try to fine another couple who are looking lovie-dovie.

At some point I need to drive into Ellisville for coffee.  I don't like the coffee the Dollar Store has.  Coffee is one of the things I'm picky about.

When I went to the vet for Tink meds yesterday my "hero vet'' Lowell was there.  We always enjoy seeing one another, having a chat, and exchanging hugs.  He said that his wife and business partner Karen was able to get her 3rd vaccination because she has Lupus.  He has had 2 shots and had his doctor check his antibodies.  They were very low so his doc allowed his to have his 3rd.

Little Tink is doing as well as expected.  She still coughs a little and sleeps a lot but she doesn't have the big belly associated with congestive heart failure and trots around wagging her tail happily when she goes outside to do her business  and explore the yard.  I constantly have to adjust her codeine doseage.  Right now she's on full dose at night and half dose in the morning.  She takes 4 pills twice a day and always looks forward to them.  She licks them off my finger in a little glob of peanut butter.

Have a nice day, everyone.  Barb, enjoy your new tank.  You need some of my free snots.

Hello all...

We're going to get up to 106 today with blue skies again...not like you guys...Barb, how do you time the rain like that?... :D

I'm planning a WC on one 125 today and the other 125 tomorrow...I have to do them a day apart at least, to let the RO refill...then another refill and I'll top off the small tanks Friday morning before I leave...

Guess I better get my day started...you guys have a great one, and, of course...Happy Aquariuming!!!

Hi, Willie I keep my rain water storage container tightly covered unless the roof rain is pouring into it, via a downspout.  If it were uncovered it would sure get mosquitos.  When it rains I go out and uncover it and when rain is over I slap the lid back on.  I will go outside in pouring rain with an umbrella just to get the lid off.  My container is a 45 gal. heavy duty trash can with tight filling lid.  When it pours the container will be full in about 5 min!  I plan to put another container on another corner of my house, both in backyard.  Will need my son to help with that job.  Cutting and remaking the downspout into the container.  And it has to look good of course.  I get the water out of the container by using containers I dip into the water.  A spout would be too hard to do and take too long.  I can dip out about 15 gal in just a few min.

No thanks on more fish Liz, and besides, the snots don't like my water here.  They always die.  I will take a few Assassins if you ever have extra to spare.  They are the only snails I like/want.  I am down to only 3.  Used to have hundreds but they ate each other until each tank only had 1.

Ron, I was just lucky with that rain, totally unexpected and not even forcasted. Nature was giving me a nice gift.  My plants from you are mostly fine.  A few heat casualties but most great.  My favorite is the corkscrew val, so pretty. Is guppy grass a floater or rooted in substrate?

Either way...if you float it, it will eventually send roots to the substrate...

Barb, the assassin's don't reproduce as fast in my tanks as they do in others.  I'm sure it's water related.  If you'd like I can put you in touch with the guy on Simply I got mine from.  Let me know...
