When doing a water change and you can't get the temperature just right, is it better to have it too cold or too hot? I've always thought too cold was better but I decided to make sure.

I have learned from folks on here that if you have a cooler water change it Can  trigger some fish to spawn. I keep my tank round 78 to 80, I just run the tap water in and honestly, I haven't checked the incoming water temperature, but I know it's cooler. However it is going into a 125 gallon tank and I do about a 40% water change weekly.

I do 50% qater changes with cooler water, heard somewhere that cooler is better than warmer, and it doesn't seem to bother the fish.  The tanks usually drop about 3-5 degrees from the change. I haven't seen any problems yet.

....water change temps are normally cooler here too.....except for small fry....where I try for as close as I can to tank temp.
