It appears that I have a broody hen. Guess which one? It's the one who lays in the box of fish junk in the cabinet in the fish room. She was in there all day yesterday and was still there when I got home from work today. That would never work. She had already knocked one eggs out of the box full of junk as she was moving around.
I picked her up and moved her and several eggs to the tool box in the chicken house. The location was not acceptable to her. She is determined to be a house hen. She came walking into the house, plopped her self on a wing chair, didn't like that, and then came into the office where she settled on a place in the closet where I keep fish shipping supplies. I stuck a bunch of eggs under her. I'll put a small feeder and a small waterer in with her and we'll see how it goes.

I was mistaken. The hen that decided the closet in the office was the correct place to lay an egg was a hen laying her first egg. I was in the fish room doing WC when I heard her singing the egg song. I went back to the fish room and found broody sitting on her pile of fish junk again. I pulled out her box, dumped all the junk into another box and put it in the closet. I filled her box with cellulose insulation, put 7 eggs on top of it, plopped her on top and closed the cabinet doors. She's happy now.
The fish room is actually a darned good place to raise a brood. It's always warm and always humid. Eggs need a certain amount of humidity otherwise the chicks aren't able to hatch out. When the eggs hatch, she can lead the chicks outside through the pet door.
